President Nicolás Maduro consolidated his power even more by sweeping the elections to elect the municipal councils before an opposition that mostly decided to boycott the process since they consider that there are no conditions to guarantee a transparent election. Read full article

    Agreed that 27% turnout in Venezuelan local government elections does not give Maduro a democratic mandate.
    But worth pointing out that municipal elections in England typically show a turnout of only 30-35%, also signs of a sclerotic democracy. This is always ignored by the media.
