Everyone should applaud the Japanese deciding to sustainably harvest whales that will result in reducing the carbon footprint of protein consumption in the country. The article forgets to mention the numerous international communities that also harvest whale meat as an important cultural part of their diet and have been victimized by evil nasty politically motivated terror groups, such as Greenpeace.
Whale meat is nutritious, healthy and provides a greater variety to the people's diet.

Yes, absolutely correct, but then so does tuna, wild salmon...
...they also lecture me that 1 cow emits more CO2 than five diesel powered automobiles... Meanwhile our vegan friends are working on laboratory grown meat and tofu surimi... Can anyone explain to me the concept of organically sustainable soy farming economically conceivable to feed the growing world's population?
...We are doomed, that's at least what we're being told... We are doomed.

(There used to be a popular bumper sticker that read “NUKE A GAY WHALE FOR CHRIST” which sort of puts everything into perspective.)

When Greenpeace where running one particular campaign to save the whales, they where looking for a slogan. I gave them this suggestion. “Save a whale eat a Jap.”

Whale meat was an important source of protein for school children after WW2 due to shortages.

Nostalgia drives whale hunting in Japan as no one is eating it and the government subsidises the hunting by over US$50 million per year so they can stockpile thousands of tonnes of meat that they are literally giving away.

Typical, that silly old farts are making decisions based on nostalgia rather than what modern society wants... thank god they die out eventually.
