The US has imposed sanctions on Venezuela's state-owned oil firm PDVSA and urged the country's military to accept a peaceful transfer of power. National Security Adviser John Bolton said President Nicolás Maduro and his allies could “no longer loot the assets of the Venezuelan people”. Finally the USA and the UK have taken the lead to remove Maduro's control of outside wealth which rightfully belongs to the Venezuelan people. The real problem of course is to convince the military to change sides.

In any case, under the best of circumstances, the country will need at least a decade to sort out its destroyed economy.
