Brazil’s bar association and top investigative journalism group Abraji blasted far-right President Jair Bolsonaro on Monday for his latest Twitter attack on the press.

Bolsonaro on Sunday tweeted that a reporter with the Estado de S.Paulo newspaper had been caught on an audiotape saying that she wanted to aid in his impeachment and “ruin the life” of his son Flavio, a senator under investigation for money laundering.

The audio Bolsonaro included in his tweet, with the reporter speaking in halting English, made clear she said the corruption investigation into Flavio could create serious problems for the Bolsonaro government and possibly lead to his impeachment.

Neither the president nor Flavio Bolsonaro have provided explanations to federal prosecutors, who are investigating Flavio in connection with at least two luxury apartments he purchased in Rio.

Abraji and the OAB bar association said in a joint statement on Monday that Bolsonaro was trying to “intimidate media outlets and journalists.”

Bolsonaro’s tweet on Sunday rallied his supporters on the social media platform, with the hashtag “Estado Lies” becoming the top trending topic on Twitter and with threats being made against the reporter.

But by Monday, “Bolsonaro is Fake News” had replaced it among top Twitter hashtags in Brazil. The president’s office said Bolsonaro declined to comment on the incident.
Estado published a story on its website on Monday sharply criticizing the president’s tweet.

It said the audio of the reporter was made during a Jan. 23 phone conversation she had with somebody who went by the name Alex MacAllister. That person identified themselves as a student doing a comparative study of Bolsonaro and U.S. President Donald Trump and asked the reporter about the investigation into Flavio.

Bolsonaro often uses Twitter to lash out at the coverage of his presidency and, like Trump, has said he is at war with “fake news.”

Where are Chicureo and Jack Bauer when we need 'm?

We need our Chilean spokesperson and ultimate expert Jack to set the facts straight.

Of course, nobody may even imagine that a man of his moral stature would even consider lying to people.

    How was it, Chicureo? “

    EM
    Reekie,
you called for me ? here I am...I don't hide when the going gets hot....like some Argy posters who hide out in Canada, do.

The headline, saying Bolsonaro was INVOLVED in fake news, is BULL SH*T.......more like he was involuntarily caught up in it.....before he knew it was fake.....but that has never stopped the press from spouting it's biased BS. Which YOU believe.

To cut a long story short, by what I've read (not too much, as BS does not interest me), Bolsonaro reacted to an interview supposedly granted to a journalist from a French site “Mediapart”...yes, but he was fooled....Any subscriber to Mediapart can have a blog in the site, and the interview in question was published by one of these subscibers to Mediapart, which has the fantastic number of 5 (five) bloggers...a really important and reliable source of information, eh Reekie ???
Just pure BS....but true to your left-wing orientation, you jumped on the bandwagon to criticize Bolsonaro...
Bolsonaro's problem was that he reacted to BS before he knew it was.

“...speaking in halting English, made clear she said the corruption investigation into Flavio could create serious problems for the Bolsonaro government and possibly lead to his impeachment.”

More like wishful thinking than anything else.....regarding the possibility of Bolsonaro being impeached due to his son's suspected irregular financial movement (COAF) - but not yet proved - is more crap......what his son might, or might not be involved in, has no connection with his father, and is therefore not an impeachable offense.
Reekie, you should really consult reliable sources.....you, once again, are acting like Terry the slimy, albino cockroach.....not a good sign......for you.

“Informação confiável acima de tudo, inclusive dos idiotas que nem sabem o que é isso”

Just a quick note....seems Marielle's (and her driver's) assassins were from the 'militia'....as I said, and the idiots on here questioned me........sorry, idiots.

“Reekie, you should really consult reliable sources”

So should your President. What's he doing reading some dodgy French 'news' site, let alone repeating it to the world without checking? You said you try to confirm news to see if it's true, why do you expect less from the guy running the country? I sure hope he has a more rigorous standard of evidence when he's making decisions that affect everyone in Brazil.

    A verdade acima de tudo.
