On the road to the World Sheep Shearing and Woolhandling Championships in Le Dorat, France from July 4 until July 7, the Falkland Islands' team is limbering up at prestigious UK agricultural shows.
Team Manager James Butler told Penguin News they had just competed at the Three Counties Show with woolhandlers Pilar Castro finishing in sixth and Vikki Berntsen in eighth.
In the shearing Paul Phillips finished 29th. James said: “We all know he can shear better.
“But he did have one sheep that was not as good as the others and made his work a lot harder.
“I know he will be up for the next show this weekend just to stamp his mark and let the other shearers know he means business.”
Lee Molkenbuhr finished in an excellent thirteenth place in the shearing. James said: “The Falklands team were up against the other teams heading to France so it was a good effort from them all.
All of the team are away to the Highland show (Compton) this weekend.
“We would like to thank all of our sponsors for the donations to the Falkland Shears so we can send a team away. Also good luck to all competitors going to the Island Games and Bisley and anyone else representing the Falklands this year in any sport.” (Penguin Nesws)
