The headline iself is indicative of the paralysis toward anything but feeble local or regional efforts addressing Global Scorching, overwhelmingly undermined by rhe seeming catatonia of national governments not working internationally at the pace they must to survive: Putting it in terms that the world is facing a climate in rapid acceleration of killing heat, as if the world and its climate were two separate unrelated parts, relieves people of the impetus required to stop it by unconsciously extrapolating the notion that humans as well are as separate from the climate as the world is, as if people have zero impact on it and are neither responsible for it nor expected to resolve it and are, in fact, helpless to act.

Governments otoh, intertwined as they are with the wealthy within who are also the powerful, prefer not to act on the scale they must or face extinction because of their addiction to satisfying the system built for short-term greed. Any great movement forward which rocks that boat is dismissed as a nuisance disrupting, as it must, the status quo of the global economy.

The position is that of the great Jack Benny skit in which he is confronted with a thief with a gun (read Global Scorching) who demands “Your money or your life!” Which leaves Jack (read Government) silent and unreactive. After a long moment, the threat, growing stronger, reiterates the demand Your money or your life to which Jack finally responds, overwhelned by the thought of the loss of his money, “I'm thinking, i'm thinking!”
