mare harbour can now cater for 85% of all imports! new deep water port ought to be able to handle the remaining 15% but why mare harbour cannot be upgraded to cater for that + all exports for better value for money than a duplicate port having regard for economies of scale is a mystery?

Portman- couple of reasons.Main FI Economy Base is Fishing- Coldstores are in Stanley and Military would not be inclined to allow fishing vessels with wide range of S.American crews and other nationalities to dock there, also no civilian facilities there for crew onshore.
Tourism- not suitable port for cruise ships to dock when doing passenger exchanges as Stanley- where the tourists visit and all facilities for commercial refuelling and watering and storing is 30 miles away on not always a good road. Cruise vessels need to know they can book guaranteed berth on day or planned passenger air exchange and not suddenly be told at a day or two,s notice they now cannot berth that day due to MOD reasons.

Could maybe work with a separate civilian pier alongside military one in 6-8 yrs once MPA toad all tarred- but would MOD really want hundreds of civilians of mixed nationalities in the area.

Wyvern- UK will not return the FALKLAND Islands within 25 years as they are British and have been owned by Her Majesty's Government for longer than Argentina has been a sovereign nation. The Islanders do not want backwards Latin Americans telling them how to run there lives.

That is why we kicked there arse 30+ years ago!!!
