See how generous the UK is. The foreign aid that is given to the world would keep all the homeless and down and outs on the streets of London off the streets and live happily ever after.

So you'd rather the money was used to give handouts to down-and-outs so they can sit on their arses and watch the world go by? ;)

Sooner they received it rather than the dictators pocketing it.A son of an African dictator had a £ 5 million pound home in London and 5 top of the range sports cars Lamborgini, Ferrari, Maserati etc

They don't purposely give money to dictators, Golfcronie. But countries with competent, benevolent leaders generally have a lot less poor people.

And Argentina isn't a dictatorship, so what's your objection to this program? Antibiotic resistance is a worldwide problem that could easily affect you in the future, and the money encourages collaboration with researchers in this country, helping keep the UK at the forefront of R&D.

Demon Tree, this is a research programme and I certainly applaud it.Where did I imply that Argentina was a Dictatorship? You are very quick to judge my friend. There are many dictators in Africa and they are given Foreign Aid to help their poor, but that does not always filter down to those that need it,in fact not much goes to those that need it.You are implying that Argentina does not have a “ competent, benevolent leaders ” is that what you are saying? as there are 15.8 million poor.

You brought up dictators on a story about Argentina. But it seems you were making a general rant.

It's true that not all the money the UK gives is well spent, and it's not always possible to ensure it all goes where intended. But think about newspapers. Do they report the flights that arrive safely, or the few that crash? It's the same with this, the projects that sound ridiculous or fall prey to corruption make better stories, but it gives a misleading impression overall.

As for leaders in Argentina, I don't know enough to judge how benevolent any of them have been, but the state of the country does not show great competence, I think you'll agree.
