The front-runner in Argentina’s presidential election reached out to undecided voters on Sunday, promising both orthodox and unorthodox policies to cure the country’s deep economic troubles. Read full article
ex-President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner saddled the economy with heavy trade and currency controls that Macri quickly rolled back when he took office in late 2015.
Exactly.
The consequences of Macri's rolling back trade and currency controls are now there for all to see:
The economy has done nothing but get worse since the primary election, Burdman said.
In fact, besides a temporary improvement prior to the legislative elections of November 2017, the economy has been going downhill since December 2015 -- the date Mauricio Macri took office.
That's right Kamerad/Komrade, and when the Fascist Peronists take over, it will descend at an accelerated rate. I'm looking forward to the entertaining news...
Unfortunately, Enrique you do not realize that trade and currency controls are the recipe to ruin an economy.
Those might work if your end model is Cuba.
Where do you get your data?
Our GDP has not grown in absolute terms since 2011.
@imoyaro That K bracelet is a great touch. It says it all.
Tarquin, Kamerad/Komrade Rique has tried twice to run for public office in Canada, each time losing with truly risible numbers. He has declared he will be trying to get his filthy claws on public money yet again, and I have started getting art ready to support his campaign. Truth in advertising, if you will... ;)
...trade and currency controls are the recipe to ruin an economy.
Sure. Macri comes handy as an example. He did away with most controls. Doesn't seem to have worked as greatly for most Argentines. Speculators made juicy profits though.
Our GDP has not grown in absolute terms since 2011.
I see. What you are doing is to try and mix the Macri and CFK terms in government. This all did not start with poor soul Macri! It had already been in place during CFK! Small problem, my friend, is that Macri was elected president on his bold promises of fixing all those problems. Remember? Inflation is the easiest thing to fix, Macri said during his campaign. Inflation reveals your incapacity to govern.
Macri never said anything about the heavy inheritance until after he was elected.
Fortunately, the Argentines remember those promises, saw the results, and are now passing the bill. Can you thing of a better example of democracy?
What is all this mixing Macri and Cristina nonsense?
The truth is that no politician wants to talk about the systemic failure of our country's administration.
The cost of our political system is outrageous. Macri didn't fix it and Alberto is going to worsen it. The guy wants to create 6 new ministries as if we didn't have enough of those things already.
If politicians didn't spend so much, we wouldn't need capital or exchange controls.
How are things going in Canada? Do you think that they would have reached such standard of living by imposing controls?
Check your numbers. Hope you understand why I support Espert.
