Russian navy has discovered five new islands revealed by melting ice in the Arctic
Russia's navy said on Tuesday it had discovered five new islands revealed by melting glaciers in the remote Arctic. An expedition in August and September charted the islands, which have yet to be named and were previously hidden under glaciers, said the head of the northern fleet, Vice Admiral Alexander Moiseyev.

Major pre-salt oilfields auction could raise some US$ 50 billion for Brazil
An auction next month of oilfields in Brazil may be the priciest ever held, raising at least US$ 50 billion in licensing fees and compensation. Exxon Mobil Corp., Royal Dutch Shell Plc and other energy giants are set to vie for deep-sea deposits that could hold 15 billion barrels of oil, almost twice as much as Norway’s reserves.

Chris, the Australian Merino sheep with a 41.1kg fleece has died
An Australian sheep that entered the Guinness World Records after being found with an enormously overgrown fleece has died, it was announced. Chris the merino sheep made global headlines after being found wandering alone outside Australia's capital Canberra with masses of wool sagging from its frame in 2015.
