With the change of government in Argentina just round the corner, 10 December, the Foreign and Worship ministry presented a Foreign Policy Performance Report of the four-year mandate of outgoing president Mauricio Macri. The report was presented by Minister Jorge Faurie, and chapter 5 refers to the South Atlantic Islands, specifically the Falklands, and also Antarctica. Read full article

Nov 30th, 2019 - 10:20 am - Link - Report abuse +6Well dream on land grabbers because this is one territory that you are not getting your hands on.
The falkland island people have just as much equal rights to live their lives of their choosing as any other law abiding Country.
Argentina wants only one thing. The wealth that surrounds our shores.
If the technology progresses at the rate it has over the last four years we will all be abolishing the use of oil as our main commodity. That is when Argentina will loose complete interest in us because the spoils they so desire will be worthless.
That's a bit unfair. They also want to put their flag up on a pole so they can feel proud of their country.
Nov 30th, 2019 - 11:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0Did the Junta even know about the oil back in 1982?
Demon tree.
Nov 30th, 2019 - 12:15 pm - Link - Report abuse +5They knew about the oil decades before 1982.
I was a ham operator in the late sixties and Argentina was test drilling for oil on our islands back door.
I used to communicate with one of the rig operators.
Yes they knew about it all right.
Argentina in renowned for aggression and land grabbing it is a part of their culture.
Remember they stole the land they live on from an indigenous people.
That speaks volumes about their intentions.
a definitive solution of the sovereignty dispute
Nov 30th, 2019 - 06:58 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Whatza' da' problema?
A definitive solution of sovereignty over the British Falkland Islands was reached in 1833.
They have progressed the false sovereignty claim in the only way they can, by stating their opinion. The Peronists state this as ineffectual, and unpatriotic, forgetting that the pledge by Menem to get Argentine sovereignty by 2000 failed. The bid by the Kircheners to get sovereignty by making things difficult for the Islanders (bullying, they know they are powerless against the UK) failed equally despite all their squawking. Even if they start this Malvinas Observatory or Falklands office, whatever they call it, will only waste more of their taxpayer's money, with the only effect that it will make the Falkland Islanders want as little contact as possible. They're buggered whether they try hearts and minds (good cop)as the Islanders will see through bribery and buggered if they try to threaten the islanders (bad cop) as that plays against standard British psychology that always performs better in a crisis or when threatened. The fact is that when the UK government gave the Argentines a guilt edged opportunity to impress the islanders with the communications agreement by honey monster Heath, Argentina messed it up by sticking their snobby noses up at the islanders. Then they messed it up forever by invading in 1982. This will forever give the UK the chance to say that Res 2065, dependant on peaceful negotiation, was broken by Argentina in an act of war. So no matter how Argentina regurgitate 2065, omitting the Declaration of the implementation of independence, ”Bearing in mind the interests of the population (i.e. not those of the UK or Argentina), and bearing in mind the UN Charter”, the UK can forever state the conditions of that resolution and how Argentina broke it by waging war.
Nov 30th, 2019 - 08:12 pm - Link - Report abuse +2They will always be whinging about sovereignty its there nature.
Nov 30th, 2019 - 09:18 pm - Link - Report abuse +1here there are many people who are clearly very far from reality

Dec 01st, 2019 - 09:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0Interesting. If they found oil nearby they'd at least suspect it of being valuable.
But Argentina is hardly unique in that way. Quite the reverse, there's hardly a country in history that hasn't at least tried to expand at the expense of others.

Dec 01st, 2019 - 12:22 pm - Link - Report abuse +1The sentiments of DemonTree are the same as Corbyn's as clearly indicated by his two posts.
Speak for yourself, Terry. You're the one always defending socialists like Lula. I'm not planning to vote for Corbyn cos I disagree with his views.

Dec 01st, 2019 - 08:33 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You're the one always defending the wrongly convicted, as an appeals court has just ruled that Moro wasn't biased. Which has just clearly indicated how corrupt the justice system is in Brazil.
While your own words condemn you as an apologist for Argentina, just like Corbyn.
What an idiot. Your beloved Lula agrees with Corbyn, he always supported Argentina.

Dec 02nd, 2019 - 10:37 am - Link - Report abuse 0Thank you for confirming by your failure to refute that you are an Argentine apologist. So in spite of your feeble protests thus proving the only idiot is you, loser. He always supported Argentina. Further, confirming that my support for Lula has only been on the legal issues.
Hardly, you're always boasting about being a liberal and calling conservatives dumb.

Dec 02nd, 2019 - 12:00 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You're always boasting about ... Obviously, another lie otherwise you would be able were I have personally made such claim. I have shown academics that have proved such a contention. But my remit, as I say yet again is whether a legal ruling is correct, and thus just.
So you'd agree that if someone like Chicureo has conservative views, that's no reason to think he's stupid?

Dec 02nd, 2019 - 05:21 pm - Link - Report abuse 0So you'd agree... that he readily complies with conclusions of the following expert opinion, and I can see of no reason that would make him an exception. While you also comport with the conclusion as you try to resurrect and issue that you have previously lost.
“Low IQ & Conservative Beliefs Linked to Prejudice; There's no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study …The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults.” www.livescience.com/18132-intelligence-social-conservatism-racism.html
But, you keep cuddling up it's what do best trying to ride on others coat-tails.
See, Terry thinks conservatives are dumb. :)

Dec 02nd, 2019 - 10:17 pm - Link - Report abuse 0See, ... You think Trump is smart? Check out US TV news feeds, or alternatively check the many news clips on YouTube. Show one that indicates he has any smarts at all, because I haven't found one that shows anything other than he's as dumb as a stump. I rest my case.
