FAO, OIE, and WHO launch One Health approach guide to addressing zoonotic diseases 

Zoonotic diseases continue to be a threat to global health, causing millions of deaths and economic losses every year. To support countries to control these diseases, the Tripartite organizations (FAO, OIE and WHO) launched a guide entitled ‘Taking a Multisectoral, One Health Approach: A Tripartite Guide to Addressing Zoonotic Diseases in Countries’.

South African diver experiences “a whale of a time” but survives

A diver who ended up trapped in the mouth of a massive whale joked that he didn't have “a whale of a time” but called the unique encounter “a very special event.”   Rainer Schimpf, 51, was diving off the coast of South Africa with a documentary crew in February when the breaching whale reached the surface, its mouth wide open.

World youth from 80 countries plan to strike on Friday calling on countries to address climate change

The young people of the world have a message for adults, and this Friday (March 15) they will go on strike to make sure their views on climate change are heard. Tens of thousands of students from more than 80 countries and territories - including the United States, Malaysia and Hong Kong - plan to skip school that day to urge adults to treat climate change as a crisis, and for governments to take action now.

Nicaragua negotiations stalled until Ortega releases all political prisoners

Negotiations aimed at resolving a months-long crisis in Nicaragua stalled Sunday when the opposition called on President Daniel Ortega's government to release all political prisoners before any new talks. The opposition Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy said it would “return to the negotiating table only when the government of Nicaragua provides the country with convincing signs they want to find solutions to the crisis,” which began in April 2018.
