Argentina does not plan to resume debt payments to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for five years, buying time to pull the economy out of a worsening recession after the coronavirus outbreak led the government to impose a stay-at-home order until the end of March which also put the brakes- on activity Read full article

Even before the virus excuse, Argentina wasn't planning to pay its debts.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

It appears that nothing has changed in the past 170 years...

”It seems to. be the ... policy of the Government never to settle or pay any of the many just and meritorious claims against it as long as it is possible to avoid it.' '

    “The virus excuse”

Here's a courageous keyboard warrior, bashing a country from anonymity.

The current Argentine government, with just over three months in office, has repeatedly expressed its will to honor the country's foreign debt.

President Alberto Fernandez has also said the country cannot fulfill the tight repayment deadlines set up by the previous government that also took most of the current foreign debt.

Even the IMF representatives understand that. Not Marti Llazo.

But who cares? ML could just be nothing but a poorly programmed bot. Rather, allow me to wish for a speedy end of the Coronavirus pandemic, and for an effective recovery from the current economic shutdown of world's economies.

Clueless Reeky - The present argie government has repeatedly indicated its intent to default, even if it might use pretty expressions like “unilateral restructuring.”

NB: Before posting more nonsense, Reeky, learn the meaning of default.

The fact is that Kamerad/Komrade Rique is the very definition of a chantapufi, a Lunfardo term that means, literally, a “defaulter.”

I think of a chantapufi as a deadbeat, a non-performer, a no-cumplidor, esp said of someone who gets a pre-payment and never completes the work. Though I can see how that might be in the same category as a Reeky who supports the chantapufi establishment here.

Hey, I was already missing our true, unique and inimitable Kamerad/Komrade Imoyaro! Welcome back, imo. What kept you away all this time? You would not in the least be discouraged by Argentina's recent election results, would you?

Anyway -- in regards to ML's claims that Argentina is preparing to default, I will adventure a potential outcome of my home country's debt situation: I predict that both private lenders and the IMF will agree to a substantial debt haircut, either through a straight reduction in value or through a lengthening of maturity dates.

    Why?

Because as they say, if you owe the bank $1,000 and don't pay you may be in trouble. Instead, if you owe the bank $10,000,000 then it's the bank that could be in trouble if you don't pay.

Unfortunately, the IMF went way too far lending Macri much more than it was prudent as a result of Donald Trump's will to ensure the re-election of the highway robber. As a result, the organization is not interested in making too much of a fuss -- and the private lenders will probably be in a similar conundrum.

Not at all Kamerad/Komrade, “your country” will once again be cranking out bad paper, in the midst of a worldwide economic crisis. It's all good... ;)

Kamerade imoyaro: Your two-liner comments are so boringly predictable. You really should look for some inspiration somewhere.

Given reeky's inability to grasp the issues, Imoyaro's concise messages may well be appropriate.

Reeky, it is such a shame to see that your postings are so bereft of any evidence of veracity or intellectual content, and thus so very argentine.

You may insult me. I can handle it. You may not insult my country -- any country for that matter.

I ask you to withdraw xenophobic statements like the one above. If you believe you are showing “intellect,” by posting such garbage, you are not.

It's always funny to watch Kamerad/Komrade Rique try to tell people what they can or cannot do. It points to his own lack of control in real life. Repeated attempts to get elected to public office in Canada,in order to get his claws on public money, have resulted in embarrassing rejection by his neighbors by large margins. As for “his country,” he cannot even go back there, which makes his attempt at an authoritative tone all the more risible. It's only a matter of time before I will be able to open that bottle of Chilean Carménère... :)

Reeky seems to be competing for the perennially prized position of Poster Child for Peronist Populism.

    Or would that be pop-nac?

Xenophobic Marti is now competing with frivolity expert Imoyaro for the prize to the “most foolish comment” of the year.

Keep working at it, Marti, you sure can do it!
