“Without looking or caring for the economy, at the end we will all be dead on in a survival civil war, since production has ceased”, said economist and former presidential hopeful Jose Luis Espert.

Most Argentines did not vote for Espert, and how right they were.

With exceptions such as South Korea and Sweden, most countries have been unable to keep the “production machine” operating while containing the spread of the coronavirus.

Espert is echoing the thoughts of Donald Trump, who wants to end restrictions by Easter in total opposition to his country's medical experts and the chaotic reaction of Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro, who also wants to keep the “economy going” and argues Covid 19 is like a “little flu” or a “little cold.”

They all cater to influential corporations that sponsor them and care about their bottom line above anything else.

This is great news! Even Trump was forced to back off his original plan to lift restrictions on Easter, and now claims it will be on April 30th (definitely still to early.) With Argentina lifting restrictions this early in the land where hospitals are few and far between, and at best substandard, the rate of infection will be as, Trump loves to say repeatedly, “incredible!” :)
