Costa Rica becomes 38th member of OECD

OECD countries unanimously decided last Friday to invite Costa Rica to become a member of the Organization. Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado Quesada and OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría will sign an Accession Agreement in the coming days. Read full article

    How curious that Chile and Costa Rica, still very much third world entities, have made it to the OECD, but Argentina -- trying vainly for years -- is still rejected for its failures to achieve satisfactory “developed nation” status.

    Even the US is now backing Brazil ahead of Argentina for OECD membership, after yet another corrupt Peronist government was installed.

    This rejection of Argentina speaks volumes. And it has a lot to do with the prevailing culture of Peronist corruption and the poor condition of the judiciary in the country relative to dealing with the enduring inveterate high levels of endemic corruption.
