Jair Bolsonaro should face criminal trial as a facilitator of the proliferation of covid-19 -- and the resulting death and lung damages -- to his own fellow citizens.

What’s he going to do when it doesn’t work and the numbers keep climbing?

Give everyone a bag of magic beans to eat?

I somehow doubt the quoted figures cover deaths in all circumstances and settings.

Which means the real picture could be much worse.

If Bolsonaro doesn’t start taking this seriously and soon, like today, like now, this could turn into a real nightmare for Brazil of biblical proportions, if it’s not halfway there already.

Honestly, there is conflicting scientific evidence of pro and anti-hydroxychloroquine information, which seems to reflect the political sentiment of the reporter.

In any case, Bolsonaro is not a criminal, nor as the American President, nor the Swedish government because the offend the mainstream zeitgeist. (I specifically note the Swedish as they had the luxury of shutting down their economy, but elected to maintain their economy under controlled conditions.)

The statistics show Sweden death rate does not reflect the what we're being lectured.

    https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2020/05/coronavirus-death-percapita-full-may20.jpg?quality=90&strip=all

The Swedish model compels me to believe Latin American countries do not have the luxury to shut down our economies because vast majority of the poorest will greatly suffer in a worldwide economic depression.

Here in Chile, the poor unemployed are on the verge mass rioting, due in part to food shortages. Brazil has over 200 million of which a large percentage are suffering the economic downturn. As we're expecting a worldwide depression many world leaders are scrambling to save their national economies.

Things are coming to a crunch for many countries, save what they can of their economies and accept the casualties, or completely trash their economies and face much worse consequences.

Bolsanaro however has not even tried to contain/mitigate this virus, he simply doesn’t seem to believe it’s serious, even if he were to impose a strict lockdown immediately, given how it has already spread, it would now be months not weeks before they saw any improvement.

Almost certainly longer than the Brazilian economy could stand without collapsing completely.

Bolosanaro has left Brazil with no other option now, but to take what is coming.

Doubt somehow he is going to survive as president, this virus will probably still be running amok in Brazil, long after he is no longer running it as President.

You may be very correct about his future, but many Latin American countries have made ineffectual actions as well. We Latinos generally suffer when our governments say their going to help us anyway.

Politics aside, Bolsonaro may in fact be making the best decision for his country by doing nothing.

Actual latest statistics are contrary to the original erroneous 3.4% estimate of the WHO, which helped drive the panic and the lockdowns.

    Yet...

Mortality rates in Qatar and Singapore are below 0.1 percent - among the world's lowest. The Gulf nation's mortality rate is at 0.07 percent - that is 12 deaths in more than 16,000 cases. And Singapore's is 0.093 percent of more than 19,000 infections.

Now the USA CDC's latest numbers is confirming the IFR is even lower — because numerous studies and hard counts of confined populations have shown a much higher percentage of asymptomatic cases.

The CDC estimates the death rate from COVID-19 for those under 50 is 1 in 5,000 for those with symptoms, which would be 1 in 6,725 overall, but again, almost all those who die have specific comorbidities or underlying conditions.

I'm certainly not in denial of the deadly virus that endangers our society, but you really have to question the consequences of an economic depression upon especially the world's poor.

(My very best regards to the mechanical monkey that lives with in his mother's basement.)

(Continuation from the now closed other thread which was free of subterranean useful idiots.)

Yes, gardens have a wonderful effect on children's attitude about how and where our food comes from. You obviously had inventive parents...

I just spoke to my daughter who called from Valle Nevado. She is in a much happier mood and was delighted with the apartment.

You know, Gollum's toilet fetish was slightly an impetus for my aggressively changing the old farmhouse plumbing. Although we were never used a wastebasket, the bathroom accommodations were always inadequate. (The late 19th century subfloor terracotta sewer pipe was disintegrating.) I've committed to completely changing the entire plumbing and electrical wiring to the highest standards.

One solace to staying alone at the farm is accessing the really good vintages from the past century, ...including some that are very disappointing...

One nice find is a rare small bottling and not widely exported '97 Viña Errazuriz Carignan (Cariñena variety) that has become like a soft velvety Merlot... (I'll save half of it for this tomorrow's lunch.)

Tomorrow evening, I'm tempted to open a bottle of '09 Errazuriz Kai Carménère, from an unopened case. (I've never sampled it, but it's probably the right time to evaluate.)

    ¡Salud!

”Diagnostic Terms for Defining Narcissism and Narcissistic Abuse
Anti-Social Personality Disorder (ASPD). A type of personality disorder in which an individual shows a strong disregard for norms, morals and the law, or the rights and safety of others. People with the disorder show a willingness to manipulate and exploit others. They also have a lack of empathy and will engage in impulsive, irresponsible behavior to serve their own ends. They are unconcerned with what others think and can be aggressive and hostile.
Emotional Abuse/Psychological Abuse. Acts of verbal aggression or non-physical hostility that result over time in the loss of the target’s self-esteem (emotional) or ability to trust one’s own mental thought processes (psychological).
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). A type of personality disorder in which a person has grandiose fantasies of success and power with few or no achievements behind the fantasies. People with the disorder are constantly comparing themselves to others and feeling envious. They may also feel others are envious of them. They believe they are unique and entitled to special treatment, admiration, and obedience. In addition, they lack emotional empathy and have a willingness to exploit others for their own benefit.

    Gollum/Sméagol

Because this is a holy day of rest and a time to extend a brotherly hand of peace, we all should recognize reality and honesty be truthful — instead of the fantasy world we aspire.

In truth, my current miserable situation is living entirely alone in an old mud-brick semi-gutted old house with no functioning kitchen or indoor bathroom. As the temperature has dropped, my only source of heat is a primitive wood burning fireplace and my only source of takeout food is derived from an old woman's mud oven.

Even my beverage choice is severely limited to water from an outdoor faucet or out-of-date spoilt-grape-juice. My only mediums of entertainment is a three decades old Sony TV that's on its last days of functioning and a few out-of-print old books.

This morning is a solitary cloudless silent day with only a humble instant Nescafé coffee and avocado fresh baked bread.

Looking instead of your luxurious comfortable living accommodations — with a modern flush toilet upstairs and an accommodating tolerant mother upstairs — that prepares your meals — you can't overlook why it's obvious I'm jealous of your far superior living situation...

I googled you, and believe found someone that exactly fits your lifestyle exactly: https://www.richmond.com/dating-in-richmond-grown-man-living-in-mom-s-basement/article_59675fe4-563c-11e4-ae7a-001a4bcf6878.html

In fact, if it wasn't that I know your living in Canada, I would believe it's actually you in the picture....

(And yes, I apologize for winding you up like a mechanical toy monkey that repeadedly clangs its tiny tin cymbals.)

“instead of the fantasy world we aspire.” Speak for yourself.
Ego-Syntonic/Ego-Dystonic. When a disorder produces behaviors or attitudes that are compatible with a person’s self-image, they are ego-syntonic. Most personality disorders are considered ego-syntonic, as the individuals with the disorders do not see their actions or attitudes as problematic. Disorders that produce attitudes or behaviors that do not align with a person’s self-image are ego-dystonic. Depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder are two examples.Psychopath/Sociopath. Considered to be sub-types of ASPD where the criteria must include disregard of laws and norms. Their meanings have changed over time and are used inconsistently. Only the term “psychopath” has been recognized in the DSM-5, and it is not an official diagnosis. Some researchers believe that a psychopath is more biologically-determined and a person’s environment is more responsible for producing a sociopath. Still others believe that there are differences between the two in how they behave. For example, they believe that a psychopath is more calculating and a sociopath acts more spontaneously. Finally, still other researchers believe that there is no difference– they are two terms applied to the same group of people with little evidence to support that there is an actual distinction in cause or behavior. The main features that both terms share that are relevant to narcissistic abuse are the lack of a conscience or remorse and the ability to manipulate and deceive.

People are starting to go back to work, from furlough where 80% of wages were paid by the Gov, which has saved a lot of jobs.

Unfortunately, many people are going back to redundancies, unemployment is climbing sharply.

We are heading into a recession, question is how severe.

I think things will improve fairly quickly once everything is running again, in the meantime and for at least the next few years things are going to be tough here, before we get to tax increases to pay for all this.

However better unemployed than dead, you can recover from being unemployed.

Enjoyed BOTH videos and they express my sentiment as well. (Especially my experience in the signal corps) Although I was taught in school to revere the Duke of Wellington and Lord Nelson — as a newly commissioned “seafarer” I was bewitched and enchanted by a brainwashed sorceress praising blasphemy about the mad Corsican. (Young raging hormones easily overcome reason and logic.)

Did a walk through part of our vineyard and found a few remaining small clusters of sunburned unharvested Flame Seedless that are as sweet as honey. It was like an Easter egg hunt in the yellowed aged leaves and I have a basket full for snacking. Next week we'll begin the pruning the vines.

During this crisis around us, I'm very saddened that the two massive walnut trees nearby the farmhouse are dying and its now clear — in a windstorm they endanger the farmhouse. What's killing them is “thousand cankers disease” and they will need to be cut down — hopefully milled as the lumber is very sentimental.

I remain hopeful that there will be a rapid restart to the world's economy and this financial depression we're facing will cause a great deal of suffering. Chile has correctly identified our focus should be protecting the aged which the virus has taken such a vengeful wrath upon.

As of yesterday in Chile, there have been 43 in the past 24 hours and 673 total confirmed COVID-19 deaths, of which 624 were 65 years or older.

Madame and my daughter were stopped two times on their route to the new apartment to check their specific salvoconducto by our vigilant Carabineros.

    Isolation

Because of narcissists’ lack of compassion and their antagonism, as they age their relationships and friendships often falter or fail, leaving them lonely and isolated:

Spouses may have left or withdrawn to avoid their criticism and combativeness.
Adult children may have pulled away or cut contact altogether because of their toxic influence.
Their grandchildren may be estranged from them because their adult children have asserted boundaries to protect their families.
Friends may have pulled away because of their unmasked arrogance, selfishness, and envy.
Neighbors and other community members may have rejected them because of their callous behavior and rude assertions of superiority and entitlement.

The weather today in the Aconcagua Valley is spectacular and I'm happily humming — Poor poor pitiful me...

As a broken clock is accurate twice a day, the “Marxist useful idiot” looking in his basement mirror does indeed remind me of of my self imposed isolation, which I admit is especially enjoyable — as I really do relish uninterrupted quiet reading with a goblet of a great vintage...

Delightfully, the crazed little mechanical mendacious monkey — brings to the back of mind the incredibly sexy Gringa-Latina Linda Ronstadt's singing “Poor Poor Pitiful Me”

    https://youtu.be/FmKJ66X0QvM

    Poor poor pitiful me
    Poor poor pitiful me
Oh these boys won't let me be
    Lord have mercy on me
    Woe woe is me

I was in my teens and the hormones were raging... My cousin had a poster of the sexy vixen in his bedroom and had her album...

...what an incredible tune to brighten my day!

    ¡Gracias!

Speaking of sensual brunettes, I spoke with Madam this morning and our youngest daughter was metaphorically channeling the sentiment of the exact same tune, but seems to be progressing positively. It's been a wonderful opportunity for the two of them alone together...

As I'm constantly reminded, my inner self and family suffer the same restless instinctual need to move encampments, like nomad gypsies...

Last night, I read one of my grandfather's books authored by E.E. Cummings which was amazing... Times of solitude and silence are highly under-appreciated...

...meanwhile, I'm looking forward to the all important pruning of the vineyards and keeping an eye on the continuous construction/renovation frustration requiring serious patience...

Also, I'm starting to believe that this worldwide reaction to the pandemic is a mistake, as I'm witnessesing the first hand effects on the local populace of my area.

Unlike the wealthy nations that are providing social assistance, Latin America will not be able to continue this economic shutdown much longer without revolution...

”Projection (The Narcissists’ Weapon that Can Be Used Against Them)
In the case of narcissists, because they’re unable to see these things inside themselves they have to project them on other people. Because they’re unable to be accountable and responsible for their stuff, they have to project it onto other people.
Projection is a combination of misdirection and blame-shifting. They’re diverting and distracting you from what is really going on and they’re getting you to take responsibility for it in some way. On the surface that’s what they seem to think is going on. But, if you learn to read the narcissist instead of just taking everything personally, you’re going to see how valuable their projections are for revealing who they are and what they’re doing.
The narcissist accuses you of lying because the narcissist is a pathological liar.”

Yeah, Linda Ronstadt back in the day was one of my favourite singers.....at about the same time that she was becoming known, I met a lady on a ship whose brother was considered one of Nashville's top guitarrists...I was already a fan of Country music - altho little known here back then (except for Glen Campbell, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers) - and through them I met Willie Nelson and a few others...have been to Nashville three times and the atmoshere walking down Broadway, in and out of (the dozens of) bars playing live music, drinking beer and eating chicken fingers, is hard to beat....never felt freer, and at peace with the world...

Of late I've been varying between Spanish,Argentine South African, New Zealand and Chilean wine....Chilean, listed last, but not least...about 3 weeks ago had a Caballo Loco Nº 13....the bottle had no specific vintage, as it's a blend of wines from different vintages and various grapes (5, I think)...it was outstanding. Last night had an “Aguijón de Abeja” reserva, a malbec from Patagonia, very balanced, didn't seem like its14,5% alcohol.

Now for a bit of news from the toilet - have you noticed that only Gollum's statements have no need to be proved ? looks like the slimy creature believes his claims are true simply because they emanate from the the foul potty-smelling hole in his slimy face.

The other day while listening to Nelson Teich (Brazil's Health Minister that just resigned) during an interview, he was talking about the sick wards where the COVID 19 patients were being treated....he said that the air in was different....heavy, and with an unpleasant smell....couldn't help thinking of Gollum's basement, where the air must be thick and fetid, with little or no ventilation....disgusting....just like the slime ball that dwells there.....with his plastic companions...

Yes, Linda Ronstadt was hot in my teens and really had an amazing career ending up with the beautiful “Canciones de Mi Padre” — but, now she's sadly no longer physically able to sing.

I'm impressed with your Nashville experience and although I was never a much of a C&W fan — I do enjoy Willie and Joe Diffie. (The late Diffie's “Pickup Man” — my youngest daughter claims should be my theme song.)

I've never been physically close to Nashville, but did experience briefly the C&W experience in Bakersfield visiting table grape farms.

You are in a fortunate situation to sample a wide variety of vintages which I'm admittedly a bit envious...

Although I rarely get an opportunity to sample Argentine Malbecs — I do know well the truly outstanding Caballo Loco Meritages, both here at the farm and Chicureo. (We have an almost complete flight of numbers up to No.17)

It's my son's favorite label above all others because he's close friends with the Coderch-Mitjans family. (Caballo Loco has been one of the most brilliant marketing campaigns of Viña Valdivieso and my son has been warehousing his purchases in the family cave.)

...each time I use the chemical port-a-potty, I think of Gollum... ...please be careful mentioning his bi-sexual inflatable plastic companions as it is deeply personal to the creature and will predictable go into another rage...

We should be completed on all the new electrical, plumbing and sanitary tube installations sometime next week. The farmhouse looks like an explosion went off in the new kitchen, with extensive wall plastering scheduled this weekend.

Absolutely beautiful weather here in the valley and we will begin the pruning of vineyards on Thursday. (We're receiving at least 5 times the number of qualified applicants for the seasonal project as people here are desperate for work.)

Although my very first car was a Lada sedan, my late father's '82 Chevrolet pickup is my favorite vehicle: https://youtu.be/9I51JXpcLwk

Thanks to our subterranean bitch, I'll continue:

From the Internet, I'd like to share why the vintages are not refered by year.

The first Caballo Loco was produced in 1994 (Caballo Loco 1) and made from a blend of 50% of that year’s vintage with an aged blend from 1992. Since, each edition is unique, containing 50% of the current vintage and 50% of the previous edition, which is kept back especially for blending. The resulting wine is bottle-aged for at least 18 months before release onto the market, and being a blend of wines from different years, there is, of course, no vintage on the label.

The grapes for the premium Caballo Loco come from four different vineyards in central Chile. The blend of the new wine varies each time it is made. Number 1 for example was a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Pinot Noir, whilst later editions have contained varieties as diverse as Syrah, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carménère. Only Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are ever-present, these being blended with the best grapes from the other varieties that were most successful in the particular year (and best suited to create the intended balance of the Caballo Loco).

    Enjoy!

“Avocados continue to ride sales boost in pandemic”

Avocados saw a resurgence in early May, according to the Hass Avocado Board’s latest report on sales during the pandemic.
According to the avocado board, using numbers from Chicago-based research firm IRI, avocados sales for the week ending May 10 were up 15.6% over the same week in 2019. That’s up from the 2.4% increase the category saw for the week ending May 3.
For the week ending May 10, avocados performed better than the overall fruit category (up 9.5%), but the overall fresh produce department sales were higher (14.8%), as were the sales for total store with perimeter departments (15.4%)

Recent avocado sales have been up year-to-year, according to IRI data. Avocado sales, when compared with weekly sales in 2019 were:
    * April 19: 10.3%
    * April 26: 18.8%
    * May 3: 2.4%
    * May 10: 15.6%
    * Latest four weeks ending May 10: 11.4%
    * Year-to-date: 13.2%

“…fortunate situation to sample a wide variety of vintages…”…one of the advantages of Brazil not being a traditional wine producer, although there is some interesting wine down south and in the NE region.
No idea how many labels are available here, but must be in the dozens of 1000s, from all over the world. Over the last 15/16 years, I’ve had at least 1500 of them. On the other hand, it’s hard to go wrong with wines from Chile.

Your farmhouse kitchen sounds like it going to be the 8th wonder of the world.
The weather here has been absolutely fantastic over the last two months, with the exception of a rainy day here ‘n there, but unfortunately it is limited to being enjoyed mostly through the windows…every morning, before breakfast I stand in the sun streaming through the service area window…20 minutes a day, to get my vitamin D.

You might say I am a pick up man myself….While in Memphis in the late 80s, saw the Ranger STX on display in a shopping mall…then ‘n there I knew I would eventually get one…so in 1995, I bought one, a silver STX, and finally sold it, heart broken, to a car collector, last December. Got top dollar for it…had only 65,000 miles on the clock, ran beautifully, and literally, in brand new condition. After retiring, I hardly used it, so when a guy who would take care of it like I did, appeared, I let it go.

“…I'd like to share why the vintages are not refered by year”….tks…was curious why, and googled it a few minutes ago…no wonder it costs a pretty penny. No worry, it was enjoyed !

We have also had beautiful weather for the lockdown, and are fortunate to have a large garden to enjoy it. I spent lunchtime outside lying on a blanket with the baby, watching the house martins nesting in the eves. They also have hungry offspring to raise.

Jack, you have reminded me we need to get some vitamin D drops. I was assured by my doctor that every single person in Britain is deprived of this essential vitamin, due to the high latitude, and especially now that sunbathing is frowned upon. It's not advised to let babies sit in the sun so she is supposed to have a supplement.

Re Schrödinger's cat, quantum physics is full of bizarre effects that make your head hurt. If you try to measure the decay of a particle too often it won't happen (Zeno effect), and the result of an experiment can change depending on where you place your detectors. It also means there is a very very tiny probability the cat will spontaneously appear outside the box via quantum tunneling. Basically the universe doesn't work in a way that makes sense to us.

Wonderful to hear you're enjoying the garden and outdoors with your daughter. Frankly, we were alarmed and remain alarmed with the high incidence of skin cancer, but we do purposely expose ourselves to sun for various health reasons. For what it's worth, hats and long sleeves in the summer are essential.

So much for an 8th wonder... The old sala de estar, that was the original kitchen of the house almost 60 years ago is slowly retaking its rightful location again and the old dining room will now become the living room conjoined to the kitchen with a massive opening — creating in effect a massive kitchen - living area.

I'm currently enjoying this evening with a re-warmed empanada from my battered toaster oven nearby my bed and a '03 Viña Carmen Cabernet Reserva that's good, but nothing to rave about.

The office is over a kilometer up from the house, but it has a bath with shower, so I avoid the chemical port-a-potty whenever possible.

Jack, as I've mentioned before, I did some vineyard irrigation consulting on vineyard irrigation in the Vale do São Francisco and was completely unimpressed with your domestic wine — but in all fairness I had no idea of what to select.

What is almost incomprehensible to any enophile connoisseur is that in nearby Petrolina, it was demonstrated technically possible to achieve 5 grape harvests within a 48 month period. (Vine growth is phenomenal and the dormancy is achieved through pruning and chemical growth regulator.)

One of the multiple downsides is the poor juice quality has an unsepid bland taste and yields are low. (Table grapes for the Brazilian domestic market are at times grown from there on a two harvest per year, but they're unsuitable for export.)

As I mentioned, I didn't even know about Schrödinger's cat.

And for Gollum, we both know what he really looks like:

Even though you have been continually exposed as the fool at every at instance, you really are. You still can't stymie the narcissist in you, thus confirming the following.
“To be able to understand why a narcissist projects, you must understand how the narcissist works. A true narcissist projects an image of a strong, confident and self-absorbed person, this is called the narcissists false self. Inside the narcissist or behind their mask, where their true self is they are very weak and vulnerable and seek to be admired and approved. Look at it like a hard surface that surrounds a soft true self. The true self does not function because the false has taken over. It is incredibly damaged and not capable of dealing with the foray of the inner wounds which the narcissist has not taken responsibility for, has dismissed and denied.
To escape the horrific feelings that the narcissists has the false self is created. The false self is a glorified, grandiose version of self the narcissist idealizes. Since they are all about maintaining their false self they use projection to rid themselves of unwanted traits in their character. They magically disown the parts of themselves that reflect negatively on their personas and accuse you of the exact things they’re guilty of doing”

I really enjoyed the beautiful description of the garden with your baby on a blanket. Try to lock that wonderful experience into your mind for the moment, because perhaps in 2035 — daughter and mother will go into to some inexplicable war between themselves...

...try to remember this advice: Stay out of the argument between them. It's a zero sum-game to take sides — and somehow I survived the test with both my daughters.

It's far worse that venturing making an opinion on your partner's choice of dress, or even worse... ....openly showing your dislike of your daughter's boyfriend...

To quote upon the QUOTE that Gollum is incapable of composing himself — I would note that the “glorified, grandiose version of self” he alleges, could indeed reflect the many heated accusations from Madame DeFarge as well...

...I admittedly confess we've come close to divorce several times, and the latest property decisions have been challenging with this latest folly proving to be my Waterloo...

Treat your partner with loving respect and you still may unfortunately divorce, but a daughter's love is nearly unbreakable. One of the joyful aspects of fatherhood.

Speaking of anticipated grandiose aspirations: https://youtu.be/cIJPjnzDR_E

Glad to hear you have a bathroom available to you and your 'simple campesino living conditions' don't involve washing in a bucket in the yard. ;) Maybe when the renovation is finished you can post some before and after pictures so we can appreciate the transformation.

My partner has had skin cancer so I know it's a big risk. Luckily it was the slow growing sort so they just cut out the patch of skin. I plan to be careful with the baby but it's important for kids to spend time outdoors, too.

I'm surprised you never heard of Schrödinger's cat, it's pretty famous, even if most people don't really know what it's all about. What subject were you planning on studying at university before the excesses of communism and capitalism changed your plans?

“perhaps in 2035 — daughter and mother will go into to some inexplicable war between themselves”

I hope that doesn't mean your wife and daughter are fighting now? Last thing you mentioned they were bonding in the new apartment?

Its nice to spend time with family, but easy to get overwhelmed during lockdown when you are shut up with someone and they are your only source of companionship. I think you are lucky being able to move around to your different houses; everyone's getting a bit stir-crazy now.

Isn't it ironic that the creature accuses you of lacking originality when all he does is post the same recycled quotes and links to previous arguments? I'm sure there was something about projection buried in all the tl;dr...

Very noble of you to try a bit of humour on Gollum, but as you’ve noticed, it’s a waste of time - he doesn’t have a sense of humour….he is a slimy robotic creature which is programmed to react to certain statements – all true - by repeating silly quotations, as if they proved something...well, they do, in a way…they prove that without 'them', or his dictionaries, Gollum would be silent, as the creature does not have a mind of its own.
Remove the man from Richmond’s glasses, shave his head, and cover him in slime….and “Lo & behold” (one of Gollum’s pre-programmed reactionary phrases) what do you have ? the split image of Gollum in his ma’s basement.

It’s funny to see Gollum talk of originality : “Give it up you've been throughly bested, you're so lacking in originality, blah, blah” when he has no idea what it means.
Regarding Brazilian wines, the ones that are good – and they do exist – are few 'n far between….about 10 years ago, bought a batch of wines (2003/4 vintages) produced by a company called Rio Sol (joint venture btwn Michel Rolland /Expand, the latter at the time being the largest wine importer/wineshop in Brazil, while they had the exclusive representation of Concha & Toro) in the municipality of Lagoa Grande, PE (S.Franncisco Valley), roughly 400 miles west of Recife (latitude 8º south, Longitude 40° west), quite close to Petrolina. I was surprised at their smoothness and balance.
Yeah, having 2 or 3 harvests/year, is interesting.
In the south of Brazil, a Co called Vinícola Almaúnica makes some pretty good varietals (cab sauv and merlot). There are others, whose wines have improved greatly over the last 10 years - Villa Francioni, Cordilheira de Santana, dal Pizzol, are some. Only problem is that many times, they’re more expensive than comparable Chilean wines.

What I was referring to, was the hormonal phenomena that occurs during the predictable adolescent rebellion — especially against a tiger-mother like Madame. (The two seem to be having currently a lot of fun together in the small community of La Parva-El Colorado/Farellones/Valle Nevado.)

And yes, the farm office bathroom has been the savior of my sanity. I really do need a hot shower every morning just to resurrect my aged decrepit body.

As far as pictures, I may link my daughter's Instagram when the project is complete.

Right now the house is a catastrophe. What's frightening is — its a part of our family's legacy and I already know my cousins will be appalled when the two old walnut trees are felled, as well as outraged about abandoning the traditional interior wall color. The south terrace currently is now a hideous scar, since the removal of the four decades old kitchen. (Realistically, that specific terrace restoration will perhaps occur late in November.)

We will however start the plastering this weekend — sanitary tubing, water piping and the new electrical cable are all now successfully laid.

I just learned from from the bandits I'm dealing with that my enormous grandmother's cast-iron bathtub is costing well over US$600 to re-enamel. (We did learn it was was manufactured in the USA by J.L. Mott Iron Works in the 1920s.)

Regarding the famous Schrödinger cat... Mathematics and science I was weak at — and obviously my intense political education began first-hand in 1969... My 10th year at the Grange I elected towards literature and history. (My final thesis was about William Wordsworth..., which is why I adore Rumpole.)

The navy grabbed me with their talons because of my specific school. Later in the academy, they realized their error and assigned me to the signals corps.

We began the all important critical vineyard pruning today.

Only 2 titles! Obviously I haven't been trying hard enough to wind up the mechanical monkey bot. Truthfully I just skip over his posts unless something happens to catch my eye. 99% of it is recycled and I can read a compendium of witty insults for myself if I feel the need.

Glad to know your wife and daughter now have a harmonious relationship. It seems to best to take one thing at a time; I've been told kids never actually get any easier, but the hard parts change as they grow.

Hopefully your cousins will appreciate the other changes enough to forgive you for the trees and wall colour. Better plumbing should be some compensation.

Re education, that's unfortunate, I assume maths and science are pretty necessary for stuff like navigation and ballistics that you'd learn in the navy? But you said they wanted you for your language skills so makes sense they'd put you in the signal corps.

I was kind of the opposite, found maths and science easy but although I always loved reading I disliked writing essays and analysing texts. We did study one of Wordsworth's poems (I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud) and it must have made an impression, since I still remember it all these years later. We also did WWI poetry and that was depressing: 'Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori'. Wilfred Owen died just one week before the end of the war, it seems especially cruel. I've always found history fascinating, though. Just wish we could have covered more of it. Did you really have to write a thesis in school? Here you don't do that until final year of university.

Yesterday I took her for a walk at a local beauty spot. It was absolutely heaving, people everywhere - having picnics, sunbathing, walking and cycling. I've kind of got used to quiet roads and empty spaces due to the lockdown, it's been nice.

    ingratiator
“Ingratiation is a psychological technique in which an individual attempts to influence another person by becoming more likeable to their target. This term was coined by social psychologist Edward E. Jones, who further defined ingratiation as ”a class of strategic behaviors illicitly designed to influence a particular other person concerning the attractiveness of one's personal qualities.”

Word is out in the valley that we've been hiring and I've had to employ one person to politely explain WHY we're NOT hiring — as the number of applicants is overwhelming. (Normal FARM labor is easily trainable, but pruning requires highly skilled and experienced workers — if high quality table grape yields are desired.)

This is the second day of cool heavy forecast here in the valley and I'm reliably to informed its lightly snowing a 3000m. The Poggenpohl kitchen module we purchased for a song has both mother and daughter singing praise...

The Grange School alma mater are referred to as Old Grangonians. There are several fine English language K-12 schools in Chile, but arguably the Grange has been the most prestigious because of its challenging curriculum. In my generation a thesis was required for graduating with honors.

During the late '70s the navy grasped many Old Grangonians with their sharp talons because as you know the UK was an important strategic ally. The Argentines were then highly capable of kicking our ass. They even had an aircraft carrier at that time.

Also, a quixotic curiosity about my country is our military school is a copy of the Prussian army and our navy is copied after the British model, including the uniforms.

Also, to be candid about the Signals Corps — I was specifically selected to be assigned to the now defunct A-2 division which I've mentioned before — evolved into an interesting “communications research” career, including in active reserves.

You've brought a smile to my face, with your serendipitous comment about WWI — as three days ago on THIS specific thread, I've been savoring wine with the prose of my in grandfather's book of E.E.Cummings. It's titled “The Enormous Room” — and it's remarkably profound about his experience in France during WWI...

“I would kindly ask you not give away the secret about the pits…” I wouldn’t worry if I were you….Gollum’s cave has a very hard, rocky floor…the only thing that grows there is the nauseating stench of the rotting garbage his Ma’ throws down the chute every couple of days….
As for his sexual advances on his “precious” Long Dong, his Ma’ has probably given him some KY-Jelly, as I don’t think she’d want to have to take him to the Doctor’s because of a chafed rectum. Will take a look at the avocado recipes…

Congratulations! You've achieved the exalted noblesse of FIVE titles...

Also, Gollum is too intelligent NOT to plant avocado seedlings outside in the creature's mother's Canadian garden. After all, the creature is not that STUPID...

The creature cannot comprehend what it's cut-and-pasting, much-less interpret the meaning of an idiom...

After all, the creature is not the sharpest knife in the drawer...

...also, Gollum should be cautious quoting Cicero who literally lost his head making insults...

I challenged the potty mouthed-miserable-maniacal-maligned-mindless-malicious-mendacious-mechanical-monkey to compose a single paragraph — and the wind up toy just wildly clanged its profane little tin cymbals in responses with highly-clever insults...

I repeat we both know what he really looks like:

Again the remarkable attributed quote from 58 B.C.

Like I mentioned, one should take caution and careful-thought before quoting Marcus Tullius Cicero...

I somewhat remember our professor at our school during Roman history studies give a lecture that captured our attention — because he gave a gruesome account of how Cicero was viciously slaughtered that still lingers as a reminder of the dangers of blithely quoting someone who was intensely hated for his sarcastic commentary.

They slit his throat and it took three recorded brutal-inept swings of a Roman broadsword to cut off his head. As an insult, they cut his hands off as trophies for public display. You really can't forget that kind of gruesome storytelling...

Then again, Romans are quite tame in comparison to some of my Latin American cousins who as a final insult — slice off the smart-ass' male appendage and shove it down its potty-mouthed throat...

Sounds like a salesman to me, which I was, very successfully for many years.

Oh I know it’s not the exalted “Avocador of the Avocado” with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds.

But it’s a start, next stop the order of “Psychological Transferee”, DT hasn’t got that one yet.

    “argumentum ad hominems”

Was this something else they used to say to you growing up?

Must have been tough, knowing your being insulted, but not understanding a Fecking word of it.

Now you have me insanely jealous as my five title status — pales in the monumental noblesse you have assended. How could I ever now imagine to compete?

I'm somewhat alarmed why the creature has abandoned Wikipedia. Perhaps Gollum realizes how foolish repeatedly quoting Wikipedia is...

One of the many humorous quotes I've come across which exemplify the problem with disciples of Wikipedia:

“I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so that I could converse with those people.” Al Gore, Environmentalist and Politician

That same genius claimed he “invented” the Internet and that the polar icecap would be completely melted by 2010...

What on earth does Uriah Heepish signify anyway?

When I heard that quote about Latin America it was George 'Dubya' Bush supposedly saying it. Wonder who it was first attributed to?

Uriah Heep was a character in Dickens who went around saying how humble he was all the time, much like your turnip loving friend. So false modesty, basically.

According to Snopes the story was originally told about Dan Quayle, and it was a joke that several newspapers published as fact. The rest is history, and credulous idiots like Terry who believe anything (he wants to believe) if it's on a website.

Come on Terry-bot, it's my turn, you have to insult me now.

Did you read any Dickens at school? Uriah Heep appears in David Copperfield, and is a singularly unpleasant character.

Gollum, the nasty slimy pervert who plays with doll's dong...
He has definitely been pushed over the edge...a bit above, he posted the same crap twice, the second time being when he was presumably attacking you...a real idiot, but in line with his friend Alz H.

Although he is easily offended, as seen by his “Oh desperately posting argumentum ad hominems”, he resorts to showing his nasty personality....he tells DT to “Get lips your right around it, and give it an extra good suck”...and even then can't get the grammar right, then he tells you to “go f**k yourself and the horse you rode into town on”.....not what I would expect from a gentleman.....his rage is escalating....soon he'll crawl out of his basement window and start biting passers by. His Ma had better close the window with bricks and mortar if she doesn't want to be sued for allowing her creepy crawler out in the street...

And now he believes he's being threatened...“By indicating even an implied veiled threat, you have revealed what an utterly complete wussy you are”.....
Wow, he's lost it....and something tell me he thinks he's a “tough guy”....so tough that he endured three years of toilet cleaning and got a mug for it, which he is veeeery proud of...he keeps it in a place he can see it from any angle in the basement, sitting on the 3rd step leading to the locked kitchen door... locked from the kitchen side, for obvious reasons.

What's funny is that he even sends definitions of his insults as if no one understand the meaning of them....what a stupid fool !

    Pugol
He's actually gone to his dicKtionary to find words to insult you....when he ran out of them, he called you an adjective that describes himself...“slimy”.....you may consider yourself winner of the round....
As the idiot says, ' he has been bested', and shown 'what a bag of shite he really is'...

Since Gollum seems occupied, allow me to INSULT you:

Oh foolish slave, subservient of two domineering females, forcing your alert uninterrupted attention 24 hours a day and seven days a week, followed by your continuous patience as well as an unending access to your income. What a fool you are and yet you still haven't realized that you've been unwittingly bewitched...

I predict you be forced to continuously clean, pamper, feed, dress and entertain the little déspota and yet somehow will adore the privileged experience...

Years will pass, and the chains of bondage will remain to shackle your heart...

    What a fool you are!

Regarding Dickens: ...I been living inside A Tale Of Two Cities since shortly after being first commissioned...

The plaster has been applied amazingly fast, with the entire new kitchen complete with the first coat. They will return next weekend for the second application as this cool weather and the workmen availability require it. Moist plaster is a depressing gray color, but it's really satisfying. Monday, the start laying and repairing the flooring — all the same terracotta red tile, which makes it incredibly easy and simple to accomplish.

This evening I'm enjoying a '08 Viña Laura Hartwig Cabernet.
