It's interesting observe that although Jair Bolsonaro and Cristina Kirchner who are at totally opposit ends of the political spectrum, are both doing their very best to wriggle out of their legal difficulties in exactly the same manner.

...........or say pressure their respective Supreme Courts, to allow them to “get off” the hook, despite their well known corrupt proceedings.

One critical key in the survival of any Latin America democracy is the complete independence of its Supreme Court. Even during the years of both Allende and Pinochet, our high court was an important safeguard against gross executive power abuse.

I'm still admittedly a fan of Bolsonaro, because he was successful in breaking the death grip of the corrupt Partido de los Trabajadores, but he does need to be kept under control for Brazil and his own best interests...

    Greetings Chicureo

The only point with which I disagree with you is being a fan of Bolsonaro. Each to this own. However I definitely agree with the rest of your comments on this article.

    Saludos Little J

About a decade ago, I did some consulting on vineyard irrigation in the Vale do São Francisco and witnessed rampant outrageous corruption that was in a large part to the PT bureaucratic governmental mismanagement.

Crime was so far out of hand, that it was extremely dangerous to drive in the countryside. The roads, especially in the state of Bahia, was clearly constructed with substandard materials.

If Brazil would ever achieve its potential, the nation would take its rightful place with the G20. Ditching the Dilma presidency and politically castrating Lula was an important step — the election of Bolsonaro was a reflection of the ignored masses habitually ignored.

Few complain here about the problematic Congresso Nacional which is highly perplexing — simply to understand for foreigners like ourselves.

In my opinion, the worst case scenario would be for Brazil fall back completely back into the nefarious Partido de los Trabajadores hands again...

Then again, I'm admittedly politically conservative.

    Yeahhhhhhh....

Crime is so far out of hand, that it is extremely dangerous to be outside..., even in the richest of Santiago de Chile's “Cuicoest” boroughs..., even if the roads and streets of most of Shile are flooded by powerful LED luminaries clearly (and corruptly) bought at scandalous overprices...

This is a MILD example of not only what's happened not only in our most exclusive barrios, but though Chile. Here in the valley, our Carabineros have themselves been assaulted.

2020 is proving to be the most challenging difficult year since perhaps the '80s...
...you and I both know it could however get far-far worse...

A lot of solid businesses are in serious trouble. Saying that, this could be the financially profitable year ever for my family.

Obviously health remains the most important aspect regarding the people we care for, but 5 months ago, I would never imagine what we're seeing today!

    ¡Salud sinceramente!

”Prosecutors See Evidence of Bolsonaro's Crime, but Still Seek to Identify his Interest in Federal Police
The team of Attorney General Augusto Aras sees evidence that President Jair Bolsonaro (without a party) committed one or more of the following crimes by allegedly interfering with the Federal Police: malfeasance, administrative advocacy or an affront to a provision of the law abuse of authority.
The preliminary assessment is based on recent evidence that came to light after former Minister of Justice Sergio Moro denounced Bolsonaro. Moro said Bolsonaro's objective was to protect relatives and political allies in police investigations. .
The team analyzed the video and other evidence, such as messages exchanged on cell phones. There is evidence that the president decided to secure personal advantages for him and his friends. As the investigation progresses further, it will be able to define the applicable penal type.”

”I'm still admittedly a fan of Bolsonaro, because he was successful in breaking the death grip of the corrupt (PT)...“

How candid Chicureo's admission considering that Jair Bolsonaro has demonstrated total disinterest for the lives of his country's citizens, even boycotting the efforts of his own state governors to implement safety measures against coronavirus contagion. Oooooh but he defeated the PT! -- and that is all it counts for our disingenuous commentator.

Well...we also need to admit that Sebastián Piñera is not that far behind Bolsonaro in the matter of not taking anti-pandemic measures until it was too late to avoid massive contagion.

However, we must all feel reassured because in spite of the crisis, Chicureo's family is going to have ”the financially profitable year ever.”

Who cares about the rest of the world?

    “but he defeated the PT!”
”How the United States killed Brazil’s Democracy. Again.
Brazil’s recent history is one of national sabotage, ... It is a story of an independent, sovereign country, transformed almost silently into a satellite of the United States.
Rousseff recently remarked that just a decade ago, a period when her country’s GDP overtook the United Kingdom’s, “…Brazil manufactured aircraft, ships and oil platforms. Today it cannot manufacture disposable masks”.
On March 12 2020, nine months after the original leaks, the Intercept finally published further conversations revealing how United States Department of Justice was illegally involved in Operation Lava Jato from the very beginning, operating in secret – at the behest of the U.S. agents – and deliberately bypassing the Brazilian Government. The importance of this cannot be overstated.
Operation Lava Jato, and not the bogeyman of corruption it was supposed to eradicate, bears principal responsibility for Brazil’s current plight. The sabotage of Lula’s candidacy required intervention by head of the Armed Forces, General Villas Boas, with a veiled, televised threat, which swung the Supreme Court away from granting Lula habeas corpus by a single vote. As a result, former Military Captain Jair Bolsonaro was elected president, and Lava Jato Judge Sérgio Moro, who put him there, was appointed his Justice and Security Minister.

If you have been following me on other threads — you would see my consistent argument that the unprecedented entire world economic shutdown will result in massive harm — especially to the underprivileged in Latin America.

Prior to this pandemic, there were actual documented cases of starvation in Argentina which any civilized person was appalled. Yet, today — the long lingering impact of what will be a recession in Europe, USA etc.. will be result in a brutal depression in the rest of the developing world. In undeveloped countries more people will starve.

You criticize Sebastián Piñera, a Harvard educated self-made billionaire who has done a respectable response to an unprecedented pandemic, and it only highlights your ignorance. Instead of profiting from his office, our President has contributed.

I would also note that both you and Gollum consistently fail to criticize Venezuela, yet we all know of the horrendous civil rights crimes there, as well as the terrible misery.

Normally agriculture is the hardest affected by UN expected disaster, but 2020 will be indeed the most financially profitable year ever.

Although I'm cognizant of the horror of this terrible pandemic — actually I feel highly fortunate and although it's still too early for reconciling the eventual death toll — from a Machiavellian point of view — by seizing the serendipitous opportunities my family has substantially profited.

Our cost is in pesos and our export earnings are in American dollars and Pound sterling — the exchange rate alone is remarkable.

In any case, I wish all here the best of health and patience...

    ¡Salud!

    Dear hermanito Shileno...

How nice to hear that the underdogs of the Shicureo pack are truly...: “cognizant of the horror of this terrible pandemic..., are feelling highly fortunate and are seizing those serendipitous opportunities their pack is substantially profiting from”...

Surely then..., the true and gentle leader of the Shicuréo pack will do its best to be nice to the lesser privileged ones and quitely accept the redistribution of some of those extraordinary winnings through the upcoming SII legislation..., cachai...? ;-)

You really know how to break my heart... as my only true and loyal Teutonic companion is currently alone in Chicureo with the housekeeper. It's sadly too dangerous for him to socialize with the dogs and demolition here, and it would be miserable for my Dackel in the snow.

Increased taxation is absolutely certain and necessary, but the health of those I care about is not...

The entire world will have to pay dearly due to this pandemic and no one person will remain unaffected — but I remain inspired by those SAS fellows which the catchy motto: “Who Dares Wins”

Growers are compulsive gamblers, and many times are ruthlessly bankrupted by matters far beyond their control. I'm reliably informed it's snowing at 3000m so I'm feeling fortunate...

    Stay well old friend

Whereas your at the top of your game with the following posts:
“TH and Lula …both are arrogant liars, uncouth, disgusting pigs, amoral, immoral” You have described yourself to the Tee and unlike you I can use your own gutter language as confirmation of your total lack of refinement. “Unemployment in recession-hit Brazil… Oct 31, 2015 ... take you fairy dress off and start fondling your dolls.” “Rousseff pledges … put on your new dress, be gay and frolic, and you might even manage to get yourself reamed.”; “Unemployment in recession-hit Brazil …Nov 05th, 2015 - 05:19 pm. ..your inflatable dolls never complain when you can't get the wrinkes out of your limp noodle, is what gives you this impression... they just fart when you squeeze them..”: “Desperate for funds Jan 20th, 2016 - 03:12 pm ..why don't you pull Long-Dong Silver out of your closet”
