HMS Forth joined the Army and RAF in a combined exercise in one of the islands in the Falklands. After a busy ‘remembrance season’ in the South Atlantic, which saw the patrol ship retrace the route of ships and troops involved in the 1982 conflict, the second-generation River-class vessel knuckled down to more regular military duties. This base at Mount Pleasant is not only crucial for the Falklands but also it is crucial for the Western World as China expands its Empire in to the seas.
A failing Argentina is another risk because the fascist nature of its education, economy and internal policies it requires an external enemy to unite that country internally as required by fascist doctrine, the British are one of the cards in the Argentinian nationalist pack. This is the other important reason to keep the base which has given peace to the South Atlantic for so many years next to the coasts of the near, at times, failed state and the instability which it must radiate externally in order for its regime to be able to survive internally as it did in 1982.
This exercise no doubt ruffled the feathers of the Argy vulture.

I particularly like the lines “injustificada demostración de fuerza” and “en las condiciones que establece la resolución 2065 de la ONU”.
Where the conditions laid down are actually self-determination free from outside interference.
Just because Flimus hasn’t read it, he thinks no one else has.

territorio argentino ilegítimamente ocupado....
injustificada demostración de fuerza....
Strong words for a mouse, albeit meaningless.
Your absolutely right, UN resolution 2065 invites the parties to find a peaceful solution to the problem bearing in mind the provisions and objectives of the Charter of the United Nations and of the General Assembly Resolution 1514 and taking into consideration the interests of the population of the Falkland Islands....
...where the key words are the interests of the population of the islands, which have already been expressed in términos muy contundentes by 99,8 % of the islanders back in 2013.
What's so hard to understand, or is it too straightforward for them ?

I think it’s a case of they believe what they want to believe. The emotion is such that right or wrong is irreverent.

Neither have I.....when I was there in the early 90s, I unfortunately got into a discussion over the Falkland's with some friends of my friends....although they were unable to offer even one convincing argument to back their beliefs, they were adamant that the islands belonged to Argentina. They knew nothing of the historical facts, but that didn't matter - they had been taught that at school and that was enough.
Isn't that what they call 'brainwashing' ?
But on the good side, some of my familiy members who remained in Argentina after we left (in the 50s), when they hear these nutters ranting about their rights, they just shrug their shoulders.
Any open minded student of history learns what Napoleon once said,”What's history, but a fable agreed upon? Besides Argentina, both Bolivia and Venezuela indoctrinates their citizens of imaginary territories that belong to their countries.

Some very positive news: The national health service confirms that I was unknowingly infected with COVID19, but never was aware. My wife and youngest daughter also have tested positive with antibodies, but are not currently infected.
My question is how common is this condition?
The farmhouse is nearing completion. The entire kitchen should be finished by this weekend and now we need to focus on all the minor details.

Jul 21st, 2020 - 07:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Absolutely right....parts of history are represented by the will of the people who made it....and if the 'truth' differs from fact, hopefully some independent document(s) can sort them out.
You've all survived COVID 19 without sufferring....good news. By what I've heard, from several specialists who are studying the virus and its effects, your condition appears to be quite common.....the only problem being that you could transmit it without realizing it.
On a better note, about 10 days ago I mentioned I had bought some Arboleda Brisa (either the thread closed or you didn't see it), so I'm waiting for my better half to prepare a meal compatible with the wine....will let you know how it turns out.....whenever it happens.
The 'minor' details, or finishing touches, are usually the most demanding, as everyone has a different opinion.

Jul 22nd, 2020 - 03:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yes, I have met that attitude with Argys a few times.
Last time I googled UNGA 2065 and showed him what it said (and made 100 USD on a bet he was stupid enough to place on the argument, was going to be 500 USD but a senior manager stopped that).
I pointed out that 30 years ago when they used to hide information like that in books, in libraries, you could claim this treaty said this or that resolution said that and unless someone had read the books they couldn’t really argue.
However now in the information age, with computers/phones internet access and teenagers to work it all for you, there is no excuse or hiding place.

Glade to here you & crew are OK, no need for any hydroxychloroquine.
Here they are estimating some 30% of people show no symptoms but can still spread it.

Jul 23rd, 2020 - 10:23 pm - Link - Report abuse +2Just returned from the farm on what was a beautiful day there with a clear view of the Andes heavy covered with snow. We are on track to have an excellent rainy season.
The old emanada lady is in good health and I’ve been enjoying her outstanding baking for lunch. (We gave her the old farmhouse Ursus Trotter stove, which has made her happy.)
The house is still a mess, but the kitchen/dining/living great rooms will be finished this weekend. We're also getting ready to begin the repair of the new porch-terrace where the kitchen was.
Of everyone I know, not one has had to be hospitalized due to this pandemic, but there is a lot of anger about the national restrictions. This virus has been especially cruel to the aged and acts quickly, but our hospitals are not overwhelmed. In fact, excess capacity remains an unpublicized fact.
¡Saludos!
