But getting back to the Amazon, I checked the figures related to the fires, year-by-year. First one must understand (not all are capable of it) that 99% of fires are the result of criminal activity…illegal loggers chopping down large areas to take the wood, then leave the rest to dry, and burn later. After that, illegal cattle breeders come in, not to mention thousands of illegal miners, destroying everything in their search for diamonds ‘n gold.
Then you need to accept the fact that August is the driest month of the year(in the Amazon), and 2019/2020 were/are the driest in 30 years. The historical fire peaks occurred in : 1st, in 2007, then in 2003/04/05, then 2010…PT administrations. Pretty obvious the climatic conditions in August favor fires - and am not even blaming the PT for the peaks - it’s very hard to control, especially considering the area of 5.5 million square km.

We are back to our Valle Nevado apartment after an exhilarating day skiing at El Colorado. The fresh snowpack was near perfect in outstanding weather — with virtually no lift lines.
In the past El Colorado has always had a problem of being overcrowded with novice skiers, but today it was an Andean paradise — with us able to make fast giant slalom turns all the way to the bottom and immediately take a lift back to the top again.
Finally, we saw a weather front approaching and decided to return to our high country gypsy camp, where Madame left a classic Boeuf Bourguignon in a slow-cooker for this evening. Life is really wondrous at the moment.
I've opened a magnificent '06 Santa Rita Casa Real Cabernet and the snow here is heavily falling. We arrived at a perfect time!
