It's also interesting that the fires in the Amazon basin were very serious in Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname.
Yet, the highly biased press attacked Bolsonaro as he spoke honestly about the situation.
The media really despises the “Trump of the tropics.”

People ignore that governments on the State level are also just as responsible as the Feds, in preventing the illegal logging and illegal mining...however they are left out of the equation....even though their politicians are behind a lot of the illegal activity. According to the INPE - Instituto de Pesquisas Espacias - the number of fires detected, or spotted, in Brazil, since 1998 up to August 2019, is as follows:
In 2002, the fires got out of hand, reaching a total of approx. 320,000 ;
Went increasing, until the peak, in 2007 (1st year of Lulla's 2nd term), equal to 393,000 (note: Marina Silva, self-proclaimed environmentalist was Minister of the Environment...yet she 'today', is very critical of Bolsonaro).
Went decreasing again, until in 2010 (Lulla's last year) they reached 320,000 detections.
in 2015 = 220,000 ;
2016 = 180,000;
2017 = 210,000 ;
2018 = 140,000 ;
2019 = 76,720 fires were detected.
Even if in 2020, the number of fires has increased by 80%, that would take the number to 137,000.
But if those who are skeptical, still require more proof, but aren't lazy to a point of not wanting to check, they can google “Estatística de Queimadas no Brasil”, and once there, click on “Em qual ano o INPE registrou o maior número de focos de queimadas ?”
There are 3 self -explanatory graphs: 1) seasonal comparative ; 2) historical series, year by year ; 3) fires, month by month, since 1998 (the most complete);
So, plenty of proof, plenty of truth.

Actually, I was trying to be a gentleman and generously estimated sub-80, but from an analytical viewpoint — sub-50 would be more scientifically accurate. In common description, an imbecile. (That perhaps would explain why Fuckwitt so greatly admires Lula.)
Baileys is so highly addictive, I have to restrict my consumption for holiday consumption. On vacation, I enjoy black coffee mug with a quarter Baileys. (During the summer holidays I'll treat myself to an occasional Baileys milkshake — which is 2/3 the finest vanilla ice-cream well-blended with 1/3 of the liqueur.)
As far as Caballo Loco, it is only consumed with my son, as he is the “owner” and this evening, I'm finishing one of the very last of my '04 Santa Rita Casa Real Merlots that is outstanding. (This evening's fare is leftover pork and chicken caçolet, which was even more delicious reheated.)

Most of Europe virus infections are showing an upswing, but Sweden's statistics are definitely showing a decline. The Swedish population has been fully exposed — where the other sheltered Scandinavian populations were not.
I remain convinced based on solid Swedish data. Time will either prove me a fool — or correct of what I sense. In any case, I strongly feel Latin America cannot afford the general European COVID19 measures.
But what do I know? I'm reliably assured by tonight's news that Joe Biden is far leading in the political polls over Donald Trump. They may be right, but I'm convinced Trump will finish his presidency on January 2025.

The road down the mountains has 38 tight narrow switchbacks and as Madame is notorious for carsickness — she always insists on driving. The ex-slalom competitor drove our BMW with a furious speed through the curves and we were cruising through the city in record time. (She frightens me, but she's never had an accident.)
We're now down to 575 meters elevation and we're happy to be back in Chicureo. We have a busy week ahead of us, with the largest “employee safety meeting” at the farm on the 18th.
Our young Venezolana has been an excellent addition to our staff, with her unique ability to shrewdly weave through all the health department and municipal bureaucracy in advance. (Officially we're not allowed to have a Independence Day celebration, but we do have a permit for a voluntary safety meeting.)
Reading on the news threads, I see some of the terrible forest fires in California and Oregon are being reported as arson. There have been arrests reported. Sadly, this same type of arson is not uncommon in Chile...

The Viognier was absolutely superb, fruitful crisp and yet dry with a rich softness. Generally I prefer a coastal Sauvignon blanc, but I would highly recommend this wine if you encounter it in Brazil.
Viña Von Siebenthal is neighbor of ours here in Panquehue and it is owned by Mauro von Siebenthal and a select group of partners. (Mauro is a remarkable Swiss businessman that has charmed Madame — she actually copied his winery white interior paint scheme in the redecorating of our farmhouse.)
I just had a cordial conversation of the old lady that makes the empanadas. As I've mentioned, she knew my grandfather and we recently gave her the farmhouse Ursus Trotter kitchen stove during our remodeling — which she now loves.
We've placed a large order for the 18th and her quality is renown here in the valley. (She uses chopped beef, instead of ground and uses our premium large Flame raisins as an ingredient.)

Regarding traveling to nearby Mendoza, flying is by far the ideal method. I've made the trip countless times. The drive can be long and congested with traffic — with clear weather. Customs and immigration has improved, but can take a long wait. (For two decades, the Japanese tried to get permission for a modern tunnel rail link, which Chile quickly adopted, but the quarrelsome Argentines typically were never agreeable.)
Frankly, the Argentine wineries in the Mendoza area are generally world class and their high end Malbecs are stunningly outstanding. The have great tourist hotels and the food is superb, but it makes little sense for us here in paradise...

Glad you enjoyed the view of Donde Gilberto, which is owned by our friend Gilberto Correa — who we've been very satisfied customers of since he first opened in Chicureo. His high quality oysters are from his family resort on the Pacific and has a special enormous tank to serve them live — which are shucked at the time of purchase.
Our Chicureo gypsy encampment is located in a gated community alongside the Piedra Roja sector which has been rapidly growing since a high speed tunnel access was constructed — that links our community 25 minutes away from the upscale sector of Santiago. (English is commonly understood because of the high level of education of most the residents including the growing number of expat residents.)
We purchased the property for its ideal location in 1997 — because it was ideally situated on the road to the farm as well as to Viña del Mar. We are also very fortunate to be members of the Hacienda Chicureo country club which has beautiful facilities — including excellent stables.

Oysters....several years ago, after I'd retired and working with wine, I went to a special seafood luncheon at the house of a wealthy businessman who we were negotiating the purchase of oysters for the restaurant at our wine shop/bar.....there were gigantic oysters from Japan, amongst other delicacies, but I must confess that the oysters were not a very satisfying experience....as they slid out of the shell, after a squeeze of lime juice, I hesitated between chewing them or swallowing directly...either way, not a flavour (what there was of it) I enjoyed....so I stuck to the giant prawns, lobster, and salmon carpaccio....washed down with viognier, and alternating with sauvignon blanc/semillon.
Just checked out the Von Siebenthal Viognier Riomistico...available, for a mere US$ 105.00.

That is why we decided to further invest in table grapes and completely abandon wine grapes. (Yet only a decade ago we were convinced we would have to abandon table grapes and instead to wine grapes — due to dwindling farm laborers.)
Our socialist politicians actually betrayed the unskilled working class of our society, with this insane immigration policy, which Presidente Piñera finally terminated.

The idea of an asado sounded so great, made me forget it's still gonna happen. Hope it's a blazing success and promotes a healthy level of respect in the community. Always good.
Regarding the US election, fact is that Biden gives the impression he is a slow thinker - similar to Dilma, who started a sentence, only to forget the end - and if not prodded constantly, he might fall asleep....but that is not the main problem....it's his and the other DemoCrap leaders' crazy idea that a welfare State is what feeds productivity and progress....it doesn't...it just makes people lazy and expect handouts, and special, unjustified privileges....which is all very fine, UNTIL expenses surpass revenue and the money runs out....but I must concede one thing....it will be highly successful in making everyone equal....equally poor.
If the Americans don't put their 'intelligent' caps on - the one with MAGA on the front - and simply forget, or choose to ignore how the economy did during the 3 years before the coronavirus, they will most likely be in for a nasty shock by end of 2021...Sleepy Joe will have fallen asleep at the wheel, and allowed Pelosi, Omar Ilhan, AOCortez, Kamala, Sanders, Warren, Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters, just to name a few lefty radicals - ah, mustn't forget the BLM founders - to get themselves well entrenched into government and to start transforming the US into anything but a (real) democracy...and once they've tasted power, socialists don't like lettin' go.
If the above mentioned women were politicians of the stature of NZL's Ardern, Finland's Marin, or even Germany's Merkel, you might have the assurance that they aren't going to ruin the country.
But, the old, controversial saying “people get the government they deserve” is ominously true in some cases.

I'm enjoying the political debates in the USA as well as watching Boris Johnson bitchslap the yelping Eurocrats over BREXIT negotiations. (It's interesting Nancy Pelosi has taken the side of the Eurocrat weasels, while we know Trump is with Boris.)
All the political polls across the media show Biden will win, but I insist Trump will win in a landslide of the Electoral College. I find it hilarious how the mainstream media fawn over Biden, like they did for Hillary. Biden gave a speech about the forest fires on the west coast were due to climate change, but news reports show it was arson and there have been several arrests.
I've made a wager with the Maersk manager* here wagering 1 case of Don Melchor — so if I'm wrong, it will be humiliating and painfully expensive.
Today, I was in a debate with my youngest daughter about potato salad — which she prefers far less mayonnaise and more seasonings; but I explained to that the majority of our guests prefer the traditional. Same thing about the enormous types of spicy-pork and blood sausage — as well as the Concha y Toro chicha — which is more popular than wine.
