Ireland dairy industry has praised the German Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner who has said she is not going to push forward efforts to seal the Mercosur Trade agreement and underlined she had serious concerns over the deal. Read full article

    It's a clear fact that the Europeans jealously protect their agriculture. Small sized dairy producers cannot compete against large scale operations in countries like Brazil, Argentina, the USA and Canada.

    Saying that, European butter quality is far superior to what we have in the entire Americas. We actually buy for ourselves Kerry Gold brand butter from Ireland.

    And that is their market, the quality product.

    Basically the EU pay farmers to produce product which is then sold at artificially high prices, protected by tariffs and quotas from competition.

    To this day 40+% of EU money, is spent on less than 10% of its population, especially in places like France.

    Ultimately it is not sustainable, however there is always a market for the top of the range product, just ask Rolls Royce,
