Chile overwhelmingly approved a constitutional reform with a specially elected assembly

The referendum in Chile was held on Sunday with a resounding result in favor of reforming the constitution. After last year's social protests, it was decided to consult citizens if they wanted to begin the process of promulgating a new Chilean constitution, leaving the one approved during the time of Augusto Pinochet in 1980 without effect. My compliments on your wine selections — although I've never had the pleasure to try a Bisson Abissi.

We knew it was coming when first proposed, but we still exercised our futile vote of protest. Living in a democracy, the majority of the people have the right to do insane actions. (Lemmings do the same in the northern hemisphere.)

I did not wager any wine on this vote — but my near 5 case bet on the USA election now sits on thin ice...

All the polls show I will lose, but as you know — I'm a contrarian.

As the Americans say: Well isn't that NICE?

We will experience a circus show during the next two years — followed by a more volitile and uncertain future — but in the end:

    — Taxes will increase.
    — The poor and middle class will see few benefits.
    — The wealthy will still continue to get even more wealthy.
    — Thanks to Bachelet, there will be plenty of available labor for harvesting.

Let us hope together that your beloved country somehow overcomes its own set of complicated challenges in the next couple of years. Argentina deserves better than what it has now.

    ¡Saudos!

What is bothersome (as well as indicative) is that nowhere (even here) can I find exactly the written record of what is currently in the Chilean constitution and what is proposed. It certainly sounds like the usual 'democracy' where new and imaginary 'rights' are created out of thin air, but it is difficult to judge without actual direct references. Good luck, Chilenos, but remember, it is far easier to use up wealth than it is to create it.

    Mr. FortHay

Actually, they'll be squabbling here for the next two years about the recognition of indigenous transsexual rights and other nonsense — but it does provide a safety valve to release pressure as our society was in revolt prior to the pandemic.

From an economic standpoint — the rich only get even more richer — as the normally strong Peso fell against the US Dollar. Unlike some other South American countries — we are allowed to maintain accounts in dollars.

This currency change is an advantage for exporters — who's costs are generally in Pesos and their profits are in Dollars.

I made no secret about my misgivings about changing our national constitution — but personally the aftermath is very financially positive.

As I've warned Señor THINK — only the wealthy will get even more wealthier.

    ¡Saludos!

This is one of those very rare moments where you and I agree that one of the results will evolve in higher taxes.

The financial markets yesterday were reflected in the international exchange rates — which will increase the cost of imported goods.

Anyway, the ballot results that I've wagered upon is on November 3rd.

It's not the wine — but instead the ego at stake — which makes me more like an Argentinian...

The polls are tightening — but they still predict Biden with a certain lead.

If you know of a good English translation, post it, please. After living and working in lovely Chile for some years a while back, it's distressing to see the country sliding in the direction of the ad-hoc law makers and redistribution opportunists.

Actually my knowledge of bovine lactose production is very limited — and we haven't had a cow on our farm since the Unidad Popular.

I have though enthusiastically observed the magnificent mammillary gland superiority of the female Scandinavian/Germanic gender over the more modest South American contemporaries.

Just watching the bosomed females in their open blouse dirndls serving beer brings such great admiration of their attributes...

Interestingly the SII not only knows my modest production — but also has a keen knowledge of my actual sales abroad. (The game of false invoicing was defeated two decades ago.)

Truthfully I've never read my country's constitution, and despite both my son and son-in-law are attorneys — and I doubt they have carefully either. The real importance is the knowledge of the proposed changes that will be decided in a future committee.

Where on earth did I denounce “Redistribution Opportunism”?

You should lay off drinking that Bisson Abissi plonk — because it affecting your perception...

You know from my naval CV that I'm a descendent of pirates. My Spaniard forebears were the worst bastards that plundered and greedily looted the Viceroy of Peru!

Obviously it runs in my genes, as I've gleefully celebrated the opportunistic plunder of two apartments, including two new gourmet kitchens — of which the entire farmhouse was was completely renovated.

We looted the wine merchants, the kitchen providers and even the ski equipment providers with not a slight sense of guilt.

I must correct you however about the vehicles because they were only 4 and we simply assumed the auto leases — not take possession of them. (Only 2 are Five series.)

It's sad what's happened, but WHO DARES WINS!

    Careful with that Bisson Abissi.

I understood your superior command of English and you took the wind from my sails — as Redistribution Opportunism profoundly changed my life at a critical junction when most of our properties was redistributed and my sheltered world was turned upside down.

We learned all about the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few and opportunism has been the continuous serendipity of my modest success.

I indeed grabbed the education — the girl — and the proverbial gold watch because of Marxism — so I should carefully consider the old proverb my father taught me that sometimes your friends are your enemies and sometimes your enemies are your friends.

Ricardo Lagos embedded and protected our water rights as private property.

Michelle Bachelet provided us with an ample excess of field labor.

Chairman Xi has filled my cellar with wine.

We both know that there are forces on both sides preparing for battle.
It will not be luck that will save either side — but instead we both hope that the lives of the underprivileged will be improved.

Knowing history however — scoundrels will prevail as they always do.

I'm one of those scoundrels and I'm carefully preparing our family to prevail the coming storm rising. We are the masters of our fate — sometimes.

(I kindly ask the Mercopress editors to allow one Pablo Neruda poem that may be found in English: Don't blame anyone.)

    No culpes a nadie

Nunca te quejes de nadie, ni de nada,
    porque fundamentalmente tú has hecho

    has de ganar.

    Enjoyed the humor...

I actually know a fair amount about pollination — I only took pity upon my Argentine cousins — and changed their portrayal as a HORSEFLY instead of the more common FLY in sympathy. (“No noble gesture goes unpunished.”)

Your wry commentary reminds me of the well known story about the old bull and the young bull shaded up and out of the flies on a hill. A bunch of heifers graze into the meadow below and the young bull says “Let’s run down and BREED a couple of heifers.” The old bull gets up, stretches and said “Let’s walk down and BREED them all.” (As with changing the insect species — the story does not work if it's two bueyes are up on the hill.)

My dear father always tried to get me to prepare for serendipitous opportunities that were going to show up. He educated me to encourage the workers — through example and I was enthusiastically working the harvest instead of “vacationing” at the beaches or lake district like my school mates. Long weekends and Summer vacations were for working — but the ski season was playtime and my father personally taught me the sport at El Portillo.

If the Marxists haven't used Redistribution Opportunism to seize most our farmland...
If our kleptomaniac neighbors hadn't tried Redistribution Opportunism to seize our territory in '78...
If my government didn't decide to actively pursue recruiting the Grange School delinquents for our military academies...
If I was not required to wear full uniform when attending social events...
...I would have missed the glance of a beautiful alumnus of the Lycée Français...
...I remember boasting of snow skiing as a sport and she just shyly smiled...

It's a matter of IF and if I can — no social upheaval will not be a complete threat unlike my sometimes occasional bed-partner who's always an imminent danger...

So how is it in your beautiful cultural area of the Mediterranean?

I'm getting ready to go visit the old lady for empanadas for lunch.
