The government of the Falkland Islands and officials from Mount Pleasant Complex held on Sunday an extraordinary meeting and decided that access to the Complex will remain restricted for the next fourteen days given the sanitary situation at MPC.

“This means that travel to and from MPC should not be undertaken unless absolutely essential. People should not put themselves at risk and should speak to their employers in order to limit their movements on and off MPC as much as possible”, points out the joint release.

On 28 January FIG announced that a military medic involved in quarantine surveillance swabbing test had tested positive for Covid 19, and on Sunday it was informed that an additional member of the medical staff at MPC tested positive.

FIG also anticipated that ExCo will be meeting on Monday to appraise the current situation and decide is any further public protection measures are required for the Islands' residents.

However as previously advised, the airbridge will continue to operate as usual for both northbound and southbound flights, and passengers are still able to fly.

More information about COVID-19 and steps people can take to remain vigilant and keep themselves safe is available by visiting the government website: www.fig.gov.fk/covid-19.
