I wonder if the Blooomberger ranking is realistic

The pandemic in the USA caused the death of almost 700,000 people. Hospitals were not prepared and ran out of ventilators and protective uniforms. The country suffered the lack of toilet paper. Stores had to place restrictions on the sale of this product. For months people were confused about what and how the government was dealing with the virus. Many people refused to wear a mask in groceries stores that caused fights. Rent and house prices are now astronomically high because of the pandemic. Unemployment and eviction caused millions to become homeless. The government failed to release financial help within a reasonable time and food banks waiting lines were seen for miles. Only 3 stimulus checks were sent by the federal government to the low income earners within 15 months of the pandemic for the amount of $2,000, $1,400 and $600. These stimulus checks did not help at all with a 5% inflation.

Although I agree the USA was not prepared for the pandemic — I would argue few countries were.

Furthermore, I stay in contact with customers and friends that report that the situation there is not as you describe at all.

    ¡Saludos de Chile!

    Chicureo,

President Biden proposal to have 70% population vaccinated by July 4 is failing. The fact that all Covid19 vaccinations caused severe symptoms and some people no longer want be vaccinated. I rather wear a mask. The situation is getting worst with now young people getting infested with variants from Covid19.

The cost of rent and buying a house I mentioned are based on prices living in the Southwest. Is MORE expensive living in other cities.

There are 3,600 homeless people living in the city where I reside. Shelters are full and these homeless people have to sleep on sidewalks. Very sad indeed.

Currently I’m on ski vacation in the Andes and feel very fortunate that none of our extended family has been infected. Although we think mask wearing is basically useless — we’ve been very diligent in routinely washing our hands.

Chile has been fortunate that we’ve suffered only 35+K deaths during this pandemic. (We know that our government has included other mitigating causes of death in the totals which show almost no deaths due to influenza and pneumonia.)

Fortunately we’ve vaccinated about half our populace with mostly the non-controversial Sinovac vaccine instead of the mRNA vaccines which has had a large number of complications.

I know your country well as we export most our crops to the port of Philadelphia. As far as your economy — we here in South America can only marvel at its strength.

Those living on the streets in your country are — with a large percentage with mental health problems and drug use. (There are also poor Americans, but there is ample opportunities to find employment.)

This pandemic shutdown however is breaking the financial fabric of the world and is not sustainable. As food producers, we’ve been able to continue operating — but many companies worldwide have permanently ceased operations.

The cure has become worse than the virus itself.

Workers around the world during this pandemic have lost USD3.7 TRILLION in earnings while the world’s billionaires have increased their wealth by USD3.9 TRILLION which is obscene and few people seem to care.

There are millions of Latin Americans who would like to have your citizenship because they still see the possibilities to earn a decent wage.

I wish you luck and very good fortune.

    ¡Saludos desde Valle Nevado!

Some of the S. E. Asian countries were reasonably well prepared, having borne the brunt of previous “new viruses” from China.

The difference here is this virus isn’t going away any time soon, indeed new strains are far more transmissible and you can’t stay in lockdown and isolated for ever.

As Australia is now finding out, not having got very far with vaccinating its population, for whatever reason, they are stuck until they do.

The data posted by SB4 is relatively inaccurate, and the figures that ARE indeed accurate, are not used properly: 700k deaths yes, but on its own , that # means little; the % of the ppl infected and % of the population matters most.
I still find it hard to believe Argentina ranked lower than Brazil.
I live in Los Angeles and my sister is an ER doctor in Mar del Plata, Argentina,

FYI:the stimulus checks were: $1200 in March 2020, $1400 in December 2020 & $600 in Feb 2021, and they reached A LOT OF PPL (not just the poorest). Unemployment benefits are still being paid by the Fed and state , companies are having trouble hiring ppl because are unemployment benefits are too high.
On the other hand, what my sister tells me about the hospital where she works, is simply horrific!
