To legally incorporate a new company in Chile — depending on the complexities — is accomplished within a week!

To accomplish the same incorporation in Argentina will require on average 9 to 14 months. (There are back-door methods to expedite the process if you hire the nephew of a judge.)

Also in Chile — the government does not tax exported goods. We can import materials tax free if they are used in exporting product and we do not pay taxes until we receive the profits from exports.

Bribery is essential in Argentina to successfully export goods. In Chile the fastest way to prison is by attempting to bribe an official.

That’s how we became one of the most successful countries in South America!

But saying all that — I apologize for ruffling the feathers of my Argentine cousins — and certainly regret any offense taken by any Argentinas!

Spanish America is one! Spanish America should not have split. Spanish America would be the second largest country in the world!

I’m not questioning your education but I was taught that our liberators were treated with contempt by their Spanish overlords — given to dissipation and grandiose proclamations and these fearless men nonetheless achieved military feats unsurpassed elsewhere in history.

The aristocratic Simón Bolívar led his guerilla armies through swamp, jungle, and Andean ice to surprise his enemies and liberate most of northern South America. The great San Martín joined Bernardo O'Higgins (illegitimate son of a Spanish viceroy) to do the same in the south.

Despite the success of their revolutions, almost all of our liberators died in poverty, disgrace, or oblivion. The dreams of Simón Bolívar of a unified South America was a futile dream.

Our dining plan this evening is a lovely French bistro in our son’s Vitacura neighborhood of Santiago which we will enjoy good wine and conversation.

(By the way — that is the exact charcuterie board which we will order as we always do.)

Tonight they’re having the winemaker of Viña Encierra from the Colchagua Valley.

Enjoy life and be proud of the patriots of our continent who fought for our individual national identities — one unified country would be far too unmanageable!

    ¡Saludos de Chile!
