Latam Airlines stock plunges over 80% at the Santiago market after a reshaping plan was announced, one which evaporated the value of current shares. The proposal is yet to be voted on by creditors between January and February 2022.

Chile: Piñera appoints new Health Undersecretary

Chile's President Sebastián Piñera Monday appointed surgeon María Teresa Valenzuela to take over from pediatrician Paula Daza as Health Undersecretary. Daza turned in her resignation Sunday after announcing she was joining far-right candidate José Antonio Kast in his quest against leftist Gabriel Boric at the Dec. 19 presidential runoff.

WHO recommendations on how to address Omicron, “a variant of concern”

Last Friday WHO designated variant B.1.1.529 a variant of concern, named Omicron, on the advice of WHO's Technical Advisory Group (TAG-VE). This decision was based on the evidence presented to the TAG-VE that Omicron has several mutations that may have an impact on how it behaves, for example, on how easily it spreads or the severity of illness it causes.

Honduras about to have first woman president; LatAm takes turn to the left

Chavist candidate Xiomara Castro seemed on track Monday morning to become the first female president of Honduras after 38.94% of the votes had been counted. Castro, a former first lady whose husband Manuel Zelaya was ousted by a coup in 2009, had obtained 53.44% of the votes, according to the National Electoral Council (CNE), after Sunday's elections.

Argentina exported some 408,000 tons of fish products during the first ten months of the year with a value of US$ 1,731bn, which is 18% above 2020, but 11% below 2019 the last year before the pandemic.
