    Lets explain for poor Cristina

    1) If a region is currently part of a country A and wants to be independent or join country B then it is up to country A to judge the impact of territorial integrity. Scotland and the UK, Spain and Catalonia, Ukraine and Crimea, US and Hawaii etc.

    2) If a region is deemed as historically a colony, it has the right to self determination and to choose its future, as shown in the Falklands.

There is no international law that says a region must leave its current status, against the will of the people who live there, to join a country for which it has never been a part of.
