The Commission for Dialogue referred to the Falkland Islands dispute which was launched in India, with the support of outstanding political figures, as was announced by Argentine minister of Foreign Affairs Santiago Cafiero, does not seem to have had the response expected, according to the Indian media in the framework of the annual Raisina Dialogue organized by the Indian government. Argentina clings on to a non-binding 1965 United Nations resolution (2065 xx) that recognized a sovereignty dispute that dates back to 1833 and which invites the Argentine and UK governments to negotiate a solution...

As the head of the UN explained:

When questioned about Britain’s lack of response to UN resolutions, in an interview with Argentine newspaper Tiempo Argentino, Ban Ki-Moon said: “I don't think the permanent members of the Security Council are violating relevant UN resolutions. The impression is that people living under those conditions should be able to obtain a certain level of capabilities so that they can decide on their own future. And this is the main criterion of the main organs of the United Nations. Achieve independence or have a certain government of their territories. I don't think that is an issue of abuse or violation of relevant UN resolutions” (For Ban Ki-Moon, the kelpers should be able to “decide on their future” La Nacion, Argentina, 11 Nov 2012).

Yes and I think it goes without saying that the Arg Govt is NOT telling India that their Sov. Claim is written into their Constitution so and decision by UK/FI to sit down and talk with Argentina can only have one outcome - Transfer of sovereignty to Argentina regardless of the wishes on the Falkland Islands people!
Dream on in your Fantasy World Argentine Politicians.

Lets see....so Argentina claims that all territories governed by Buenos Aires under the Spanish automatically became Argentinas....

For expedience Britain used to govern Aden out of Bombay, does that mean that India should be claiming Yemen?

    Good luck.

Nothing new. An idea that Argentina kicked off in 2016 with the formation of groups in a number of countries, including the UK. Failed to gain any traction and they seem to have petered out in 2019. Argentina must be running out of ideas.

“Argentina and India share same anti–colonial heritage and values” says minister Cafiero. Well, in my humble option the “anti-colonial” heritage is quite different in those countries. Argentina was colonialized by Europeans (mostly from Spain). They rebelled against the mother country and declared independence in the early 19th century. But the people of Argentina today is mostly of European origin, descendants of the colonists and the original population is a very small minority. India, on the other hand, was ruled by the U.K. up to 1947. But only a very small part of its population was British, mostly civil servants and military officers. So, it was two very different types of colonialism. In the case of the F.I. there was a third type. There was no original population. So there is no original population, marginalized by mass immigration (like in most countries in the “New World”, or ruled by foreign powers (like in European countries' colonies in Africa or Asia.

Solomon Islands are independent, I may disagree with their decision to get close to China but I can’t say they cannot do it… I just hope they understand the consequences of the Belt and Road initiative and the neo-colonialism it is

“Argentina and India share same anti–colonial heritage and values”

“Queen Victoria promised not to tamper with local customs, practices and religious beliefs and generally to be a good steward of her Indian subjects.”
Apparently not as the British were invited by India to set up a government to help in its organization.
Thus, when they were asked to leave, they did so.
Not that any historian would argue that they were that. But it was the basis, of the legal framework.
Which led to the popular expression “We like the English, but hate the British.”

Thunk seems to be of the opinion that Brits, Australians and Americans have the same ideology as Russia: Fascist thugs. It’s actually different considering the Solomons want to disrupt the security balance of the region by letting China set up a military presence there.

And before Thunk does a whataboutary by saying “That’s why Russia invaded Ukraine” because that isn’t the reason, Russia just wants to subjugate a nation that has for years now wanted further integration with the West and Putin refuses to allow that to happen despite the Ukrainians wanting it.
