Uruguay central bank increases rate, anticipates a 'contractive monetary policy' to combat inflation
Uruguay's central bank on Tuesday announced an increase of 75 basis points to 9,25%, in its monetary policy reference rate, meaning also the bank has entered the contractive phase, as so many other Latin American central banks, in an effort to rein in inflation.

Wheat has become a most promising crop, following on the Ukraine war and India's ban on exports
The intense heat wave in India which has turned out to be the hottest spring in the last one hundred years is having its impact on people, fauna and agriculture. Thermometers recording 50 degrees centigrade, and the lack of water, has forced the government in New Delhi to halt all wheat exports, in anticipation of any shortages that could lead to extreme situations.

McDonald's and Renault leave Russia; for fast food giant it's definitively
Fast food giant McDonald's and French auto maker Renault are leaving Russia and its lucrative market because of an unpredictable operating environment. McDonald's has been in Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and has hundreds of outlets and employs thousands, but it has joined many other Western companies exiting the Russian market because of the international sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine.
