Brazil, a net wheat importer, has broken export records in 2021/22

Brazil, among the largest wheat importers in the world, --mainly from Mercosur associates--, is breaking consecutive export records in 2022. In less than six months, until June 20, Brazil exported more than twice as much wheat as in 2021, that is 2.5 million tons vis-a-vis 1.12 million tons in the whole year.

Pepe Mujica receives yet another honorary university degree

Former Uruguayan President (2010-2015) José Mujica has been awarded Wednesday an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto (UNRC) in the Argentine province of Córdoba for being “one of the main voices critical of savage capitalism.” Teachers, authorities, and students of the UNRC proposed the distinction for Mujica's “extensive career in political and social militancy.”

Brazil negotiating the purchase of diesel fuel from Russia

Anticipating possible fuel shortages, particularly diesel, the Brazilian government is considering importing the fuel from Russia. Currently, only Petrobras imports diesel from India, the country which is refining Russian oil. Brazil's foreign ministry is already helping private companies with the necessary accreditation for such operations through Abicom, the fuel importers association.

Motion to remove Ecuador's President Lasso fails to get enough National Assembly votes

Ecuador's President Guillermo Lasso survived an impeachment attempt late Tuesday when a motion to remove him from office submitted by the opposition Union for Hope (Unes) of former President Rafael Correa fail to garner enough votes at the National Assembly. The initiative was 12 votes short of its goal.
