France's Junior Trade Minister Olivier Becht expressed his concerns said this week during his visit to Brazil about concluding the EU-Mercosur deal too hastily. While his country does want a deal concluded between the European Union and South America’s Mercosur, Becht warns against entering into it too quickly, without assurances on environmental and social issues. Jun 10th, 2023 - 11:16 am - Link - Report abuse -1The West has already lost the Brazilian market and all its opportunities to China. They just haven't realized it yet.
Not a good situation for Brazil to be in, becoming a Chinese dependency.
Jun 10th, 2023 - 11:34 am - Link - Report abuse 0I'd say it's an interdependence, not an isolated dependency. Brazil feeds 600 million Chinese and earns a lot of money from it.
Jun 10th, 2023 - 12:03 pm - Link - Report abuse -1Ah, we never got China to spy on us.

That you know about, the Chinese are very good at it.
Jun 10th, 2023 - 12:16 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Brasil, You really think China is not spying on you, they are spying on everyone, China is now becoming unpopular with many African countries over their stealing of fish in territorial African waters, when you get in to bed with China to closely then they will have you by the short and curlys,, and for the 10th you are part of the the west, the west is a term for western democracies of which the EU is just a small part of, educate yourself before commenting,
Jun 10th, 2023 - 12:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0A few days ago I was in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. The Chinese are helping in the social and economic development of both countries. Lots of buildings, various processing industries (including fish).
Jun 10th, 2023 - 01:00 pm - Link - Report abuse -2Now, I've heard a lot of complaints about Spanish and Taiwanese fishing vessels. They fish without a license.
Not that it interests you, but I went at the invitation of the CPLP.
And what are the Chinese getting in return for all that ‘help’?
Jun 10th, 2023 - 01:08 pm - Link - Report abuse +1That is the critical information.
And is probably restricted/classified, need to know basis.
But that is what you really need to know.
Bras, how can you be so naive about the Chinese, they never do anything unless there is something huge to be gained by it, when dealing with a communist dictatorship keep your cards close to your chest, and yes the Chinese ARE raping African fishing grounds illegally,
Jun 10th, 2023 - 01:23 pm - Link - Report abuse +1I went as a guest, it would be impolite of me to question or delve into the internal affairs of countries.
Jun 10th, 2023 - 01:27 pm - Link - Report abuse -2But I believe that China's greatest interest is the food and military security of its people. How should be.
I don't believe that China is expansionist or imperialist. During 5,000 years of history, at no time has it invaded or destroyed another country. Now the West....

You are 100% wrong Bras, China annexed and invaded Tibet, they have repeatedly gone over the Indian border with military skirmishes claiming Indian land, do you not think there has not been any others ? of course their has been, Chinas interest ? their president has said on tape that he wants Chinese superiority on the global world, the Chinese are a peaceful people, however president XI and his supporters are global expansionists and are most certainly not, they are taking far more out of Africa in raw materials than they are giving ,the more they get involved with Brazil the more worried you should be, ahhhh the west??, for the 11th time YOU ARE THE WEST, the west is a term for western leaning democracies, the whole American continent except communist Cuba are part of it, now go do some genuine research on politics, economics geography and history, because it is clear to see you have little knowledge, Xi is for Xi and no one else, not as bad as Putin but still bad, and the people can not vote him out of power,
Jun 10th, 2023 - 02:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I'm Tupi. Guarani!
Jun 10th, 2023 - 04:19 pm - Link - Report abuse -2Good for you that you are Tupi Guarani, but you are still Brazilian and still a member of the western world, and you should be extremely concerned about getting in to bed with communist China, Africa is beginning to find out. so are the Phillippines and Indonesia,
Jun 10th, 2023 - 04:30 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The blond hair and blue eyes came from the straps. I continue being Tupi Guarani!
Jun 10th, 2023 - 04:34 pm - Link - Report abuse -2Not that I normally take the French side of veiw, there are very excellent reasons why they are right in taking caution.
Jun 10th, 2023 - 05:26 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Plus I don't trust the Chinese...

Jun 10th, 2023 - 05:35 pm - Link - Report abuse -2Say what you want, but the Chinese are cunning and deceitful.

Brasileiro. if you think you can trust China and have a better trade deal more than you could with the EU . then you are deeply mistaken, as Juan said , you should be worried and very very careful.
