Uruguayan State admits guilt in 1974 “April Girls” murders

During a ceremony at the Legislative Palace in Montevideo presided over by Vice President Beatriz Argimón, and pursuant to a sentence from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR), the Uruguayan State Thursday admitted its responsibility in the April 21, 1974, murders of Laura Raggio, Diana Maidanik, and Silvia Reyes by the military during the last civil-military dictatorship (1973-1985).

Falklands: Record Loligo catch, 53,578 tons, fifth year in a row

Falkland Islands Director of Natural Resources Dr. Andrea Clausen reported there was another high catch of Loligo squid during this year’s first season, the fifth year in a row. Dr Andrea Clausen said in her report for the Fisheries Committee, meeting on June, that the total catch of Loligo had been 53,578 tons.

Guatemalan court hands down 6-year prison sentence to newspaper founder

José Rubén Zamora, founder of El Periódico, a newspaper critical of Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei which went out of business last month, has been sentenced to six years in jail for alleged money laundering, it was reported. Both Zamora and the Prosecutor's Office announced that they will appeal the ruling.
