Bank of England says interest rates are close to their peak, but could inch further
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey has said interest rates are close to their peak, but that they may still have further to rise. He told MPs on Wednesday “we are much nearer now to the top of the cycle” of rate rises.

Mexico's next president will be a woman
Former Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum has been appointed to run for president on behalf of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena) Party in 2024. Sheinbaun was elected through a controversial process of surveys which ended up showing she had about 40% of the voting intention. Sheinbaum's main rival in the primaries, former Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, questioned the validity of the mechanism.

WHO concerned about Covid-19 cases mounting again
World Health Organization Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Wednesday warned of a rise in deaths and admissions to intensive care units (ICU) of patients with Covid-19 and insisted the malady was “here to stay.” Hence, more tools were needed to fight it.

Labour reshuffle, Angela Rayner 'leveling up secretary' and shadow deputy prime minister
Reshuffle in UK Labour's Sir Keir Starmer shadow team, ahead of a general election expected for next year. Angela Rayner has been appointed shadow leveling up secretary, replacing Lisa Nandy, who is demoted to become the party's new shadow minister for international development.
