Javier Milei was sworn in as Argentina's new president on Sunday during a ceremony in Congress in front of outgoing Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (CFK), who once again made headlines for giving the middle finger to supporters of the new leader as she entered the building. Milei received the presidential sash from his predecessor, Alberto Fernández. Minutes later, Victoria Villarruel was sworn in as the new vice president. Read full article

Argentina foes need to completely change, I wonder though is the new president going to be able to start that change. He has admitted Argentina is in financial ruin which is more than the last few have acknowledged.
It will take many decades to achieve and chances are the Peronist lot will make inroads again and destroy any change.
The biggest change they could make right now and it costs them nothing, is to remove this ridiculous sovereignty claim of our British Falkland Islands.
Just think how much more they could achieve if that claim did not exist.
    We live in hope.

Interesting that the English who comment here always want the State of our South American countries to be as small as possible, preferably non-existent.

When it is in their home, they demand that all social rights be fulfilled by a strong State and with many state-owned companies. They never accept that their natural resources are handed over to third countries.

When the Global South makes any gesture of autonomy, we are labeled dictators, aggressive, communists, and child-eaters.

It will take a long time for a minimum level of trust and respect to be reestablished.

As for our state-owned companies and our natural resources, I guarantee, those who read me now will no longer be alive when there is new authorization for foreign companies to exploit them.

WTF are you talking about now???

Also, you have no idea about what English people think and ‘want’!!!

Whenever someone tries to tell you that, the English wanted this, or thought that, and the person telling you this is not English, you can disregard them as they will have no idea what they are talking about.

Of which you are a classic example.

Charles, after the wine I'll tell you: the respect of the USA and Russia for Brazil has not yet allowed anything serious to happen on our northern border.

Venezuela doesn't respect anyone these days. Nothing has happened yet because we have 200,000 soldiers in the region. Even on their western border.

    PAZ!

At last Bras, we agree on something, Maduro is a buffoon, and a dangerous one, Brazil is the most powerful country in South America and should tell Maduro NO, end of story, if they do that then there will be no invasion. if they do not then Guyana has every right to ask the USA for help, we English, you mean British, we have no interest in how large any country is in South America, it is not an issue, its not about the USA respecting Brazil, the USA and Brazil are allies and friends as are all Western democracies.

I distinctly remember a Communist on this thread warning that Milei was a terrible choice for Argentina...

Meanwhile, Madame and her neice are currently enjoying the lake district of Chile.

    ¡Saludos de Panquehue!

It looks like Milei is starting off doing some essential things, like rooting out the gnocchi in Government. The Ks had a policy of paying people to support them but this has proved to be unsustainable. Removing the drag of non-productive “workers” from the economy has to be beneficial in the long term.
