I don't think anyone outside the fragile US “Christian Conservative” movement thought it was anything other than a symbolic reference to Bacchanalia. Piers Morgan is hardly the sharpest knife in the box, at the best of times, but anyone who was offended obviously failed the understand, or lacked the education to understand, what the French were trying to depict. As for the incessant whining about there being trans people involved, so what? The cornerstone of the French ethos is “Liberté, Egalité, Fraternitié”.
