Bird flu pandemic feared to be spreading in slow motion

Scientists have been reported to be fearing a “slow-motion” version of a bird flu pandemic after the virus was detected in 129 dairy herds in the United States, which would make transmission to humans more likely, particularly in the wake of detections among other mammals such as alpacas or domestic cats.

Hurricane Beryl marks early season beginning

After reaching category 5 in the Caribbean, Hurricane Beryl was not feared to reach Colombia's Caribbean shores but would nevertheless significantly affect navigation in the area. Strong winds hit Jamaica late Monday, sweeping away power lines and flooding the streets of other islands such as Grenada, it was also reported.

Heavy snow threatens the livelihood of animals in Argentine Patagonia

Breeders in Argentine Patagonia went wild on social media after heavy snowfalls completely covered their animals placing around 1 million of them in danger of starving to death as the region goes through one of its coldest winters in the last decades. A video that went viral on social media shows the shooter walking through thick snow in the province of Chubut, with sheep fully under the snow except for their heads.

Venezuela's Maduro agrees to resume talks with US

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced Monday that he would be seeking to resume talks with the United States this week while his government referred to the European Union as one of the “most inefficient organizations in the world” less than a month ahead of local elections whereby the head of state intends to secure another term in office amid disenfranchised opposition leaders.

Ban on Heavy Fuel Oil shipping in Arctic waters has become effective

An international ban starting July first, on the use of Heavy Fuel Oil, HFO, in the Arctic region adopted by the United Nations maritime body, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), at the Marine Environment Protection Committee, in June 2021, has come into effect aiming to protect the vulnerable waters from the risk of oil spills.

Labour's emphatic NO to any Falklands sovereignty talks with Argentina

The United Kingdom Labour's foreign affairs spokesperson David Lammy replied with an emphatic NO, when asked if a British government led by the Labour party would be prepared to sit and discuss Falklands/Malvinas sovereignty with Argentine president Javier Milei.
