Zelensky's appearance at the Oval Office ends in acrimonious dismissal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a rough time Friday at the White House as his US colleague Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance conveyed to him the Republican Government's view of how he handled the three-year war with Russia. Trump insisted his guest was not ready to negotiate peace with Russian President Vladimir Putin and ended up ejecting the Ukrainian delegation from the Oval Office. In a later posting on social media, Trump said the former comedian could return when he was ready for peace.

Milei wants opposition leader Kicillof to resign as Governor of Buenos Aires

Argentine President Javier Milei urged Buenos Aires Province Governor Axel Kicillof to resign so that a federal intervention could be launched to restore order as residents of that Argentine district were enraged Thursday by the murder of a 7-year-old girl. The perpetrators were identified to be minors aged 14 and 17, and would therefore face lesser to no charges; in other words, they would be free to kill again. “Let us intervene in the Province,” Milei insisted.

According to a New York Times investigation, cryptocurrency businessmen paid bribes to meet Argentine President Javier Milei during the Argentina Tech Forum last October, where Milei delivered the closing speech.

Argentina's Supreme Court: García-Mansilla sworn in

Following President Javier Milei's Decree 137/2025, Manuel José García-Mansilla was sworn in Thursday as a new Justice of Argentina's Supreme Court (CSJN) in a ceremony attended by Chief Justice Horacio Rosatti, Deputy Chief Justice Carlos Rosenkrantz, and Justice Ricardo Lorenzetti. Thus, the CSJN once again has four members after Juan Carlos Maqueda's retirement in December.

Human waste found on Antarctica's Byers Peninsula

Spanish scientists led by Professor Jesús Ruiz Fernández of the University of Oviedo have found traces of human waste, including plastic bottles, drums, flip-flops, and other objects, on Antarctica's Byers Peninsula, one of the continent's most protected areas. The discovery was made last week during their research on glacier retreat and ecosystem evolution.

Paraguay passes EU beef production standards review

Paraguay's National Animal Health and Quality Service (Senacsa) confirmed this week that the European Union's (EU) Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG Sante) has satisfactorily concluded an audit of the South American country's beef production. Conducted in September 2024, the audit evaluated official controls and certification systems, including checks on pharmacologically active substances, pesticides, and contaminants.
