The City of Bahía Blanca, in the Argentine Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, 570 km south of the country's capital, was struck by a record-setting rainfall way worse than the historic 167.6 mm recorded in 1933.

South Carolina to perform rare firing squad execution

Barring any last-minute stay, the US State of South Carolina plans to execute 67-year-old death row inmate Brad Keith Sigmon Friday by firing squad, a method not used in the country in 15 years and which is believed to have been discontinued worldwide for about a decade.

Argentina to okay IMF loan through a presidential decree

Argentine President Javier Milei plans to issue an Emergency Decree (DNU) to approve the new loan to be agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Casa Rosada announced Thursday. As mandated by law, each DNU needs congressional approval to not be stricken. The new deal seeks to cancel National Treasury debt to the Central Bank, reducing total public debt and strengthening the Central Bank's balance sheet and subsequently lifting the so-called exchange stocks.

Maduro says Chevron's departure will not hit Venezuela's oil production

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro insisted Thursday that his country’s oil production would drop “not even a liter” despite the U.S. ending Chevron’s license to export crude. Speaking on his weekly TV show, he pledged output would grow under his “Absolute Productive Independence” plan, despite US President Donald Trump's sanctions.

This Thursday March 6th, the Falkland Islands flag and the Union Jack flew at half-mast in remembrance of the former Member of the elected Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly, Ian Hansen whose funeral took place today.

Trump extends tariffs pause to Canada

US President Donald Trump extended to Canada a waiver on the 25% tariffs he had given Mexico earlier Thursday until April 2, 2025. The Republican leader signed an executive order exempting goods compliant with the USMCA trade agreement and reducing the tariff on Canadian potash - which is used in fertilizer - to 10%. This follows his imposition of the tariffs, citing concerns over fentanyl trafficking and irregular migration.

Pope sends message to the faithful

The Vatican Thursday released an audio message in St. Peter's Square at 9 pm local time from Pope Francis, who is hospitalized at Rome's Gemelli clinic for a case of bilateral pneumonia since Feb. 14. The Pontiff thanked the faithful for their prayers, marking his first public communication in weeks. Speaking in Spanish with a hoarse voice, the Pope expressed gratitude and extended blessings.
