    Falklands, proposed changes to National Minimum Wage Accommodation

    A consultation will be held from this week to Sunday 13th April, to understand the views of employees, business, and the wider community on the proposed changes.

    The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) Policy Department is reviewing the National Minimum Wage (NMW) Accommodation Offset and has published proposed changes for comment. This follows a first round of consultation, conducted late last year, which identified several issues with the regulation.

    At least six killed in Honduran air crash

    A mechanical failure is believed to have caused the incident

    A Jetstream 32 twin turboprop aircraft of Líneas Aéreas Nacionales de Honduras Sociedad Anónima (Lanhsa) Monday plunged into the Caribbean Sea shortly after takeoff from Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport in Roatán, Honduras, en route to La Ceiba. The aircraft, carrying 15 passengers and 2 crew members, including a Honduran-American singer-songwriter, Aurelio Martínez Suazo, a French woman, and two minors, failed to gain sufficient altitude due to a suspected mechanical failure. At least six people died, five were injured, and six remain missing.

    The Falkland Islands Patrol Vessel, HMS Forth has been put through its paces during her recent FOST assessment (Fleet Operational Standards and Training). Comprising of various training situations, including casualties, fires and floods, the Ship’s Company must respond quickly and correctly under the watchful eye of the assessors.
