    Falkland Islands, Dr Andrea Clausen begins work as FIG Chief Executive

     Dr Andrea Clausen last job was FIG Director of Natural Resources, responsible for Fisheries, Agriculture, Veterinary, Biosecurity, Maritime, and potential new area in Aquaculture.

    Dr Andrea Clausen officially begins her work today (1 April 2025) as the Falkland Islands Government’s (FIG) Chief Executive. She was appointed in October 2024 to be the next Chief Executive and is both the first female and the first Falkland Islander to take on the role. Previous to her new role, Andrea served as the FIG Director of Natural Resources following her previous experience in the private sector and as an Elected Member.

    The April 2 Malvinas War Veteran's Day holiday will showcase the rift in the Argentine Government much more than it would highlight any question of sovereignty and patriotism. While President Javier Milei will head the ceremony in the Buenos Aires district of Retiro, where a cenotaph remembers thhose fallen in the 1982 conflict, Vice President Victoria Villarruel -who was not invited- is to attend an event in Ushuaia to join a group of former combatants, which her late father also was.

    Milei celebrates official figures showing a decline in poverty

    Argentine President Javier Milei Monday boasted his administration's achievement of lowering poverty from 52.9% in the first semester of 2024 to 38.1% by the end of the year, compared to 41.7% at the end of 2023. Indigence (extreme poverty) also decreased to 8.2% from higher levels earlier in the year, according to a report released Monday by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec).
