Mercosur FMs agree to expand exceptions to CETs
Southern Common Market (Mercosur) foreign ministers meeting in Buenos Aires on Friday agreed to temporarily expand the National List of Exceptions to the Common External Tariff by up to 50 codes per member state in response to global trade tensions, following US President Donald Trump's barrage of import surcharges.

Lula enacts Reciprocity Law in reaction to Trump's tariffs
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva enacted the so-called Reciprocity Law on Friday, whereby the federal government can react whenever countries or economic blocs create measures restricting Brazilian exports, be it in the form of surcharges or objections to the origin of the product. The measure is to be published in Monday's issue of the Diário Oficial da União (Federal Official Gazette).

Bolivia's YPFB seeks partner for promising gas field
The State-run Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) is advancing efforts to find an international partner to develop the Mayaya Centro gas field in La Paz, which has been deemed one of 2024’s top ten global discoveries in the sector.

South Georgia, new electronic permit system (EPS) for visitors next season
The Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands has announced that it will launch a new electronic permit system (EPS) for visitors to the Territories in advance of the next tourist season, replacing the current system of levying landing fees by an individual visitor permit charge. The cost of a visitor permit will be set initially at £200.

Bolsonaro hospitalized with severe abdomen pain
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, aged 70, was hospitalized Friday in Rio Grande do Norte due to severe abdominal pain linked to ongoing complications from his 2018 campaign stabbing. Initially treated at a local hospital, he was later airlifted to Natal for further treatment. Rio Grande do Norte Governor Fátima Bezerra provided a helicopter for his transfer and ensured medical support.
