I lived and worked in Chile during the dictatorship and remember it as a lovely country with an endearing culture and population. My take from those days is derived from comments made by my national staff and other citizens. They almost universally disliked and resented the dictatorship, but at the same time they typically appreciated the return of law and order and applauded the restoration of a stable and prosperous economy.

I lived and worked just a few miles from the Shilean border before, during and after their dictatorship and can vauch for Shile being a lovely country with an endearing culture and population. My take from those criminal dictatorship days derives from years of daily interactions with them many thousand humble Shilean families that had to flee their country to save their lives. They universally disliked and resented the dictatorship's “return to law and order and the restoration of a stable and prosperous economy”..., for the few.
