Disclaimer & comment rulesCool. I remember the last time there was an airline flying the South polar route: Aerolineas Argentinas used to service Buenos Aires / Auckland with a 'technical' stop at Rio Gallegos when flying against the jet stream.
Sep 11th, 2025 - 06:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0There have been a few operators since then, I did a 'there and back' with Aerolineas in 2004. After they pulled out I took to flying to Stiago via Auckland with Latam but I did a few trips with Qantas - BA~Syd around 2010. After they abandoned the route Air New Zealand was operating Auk~ BA for a few years.
Sep 12th, 2025 - 04:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0Currently LATAM offers Stiago via Auk to Sydney as well as both Stiago direct to Sydney and Melbourne while Qantas now has a direct Syd~ Stiago service.
It will be interesting to see how long this new service lasts.
