Chile's participation in US visa waiver program might soon be over

Less than a fortnight into Donald Trump's second term as president of the United States, Chilean nationals having access to the Visa Waiver program would have its days numbered. On Friday, 11 Republican lawmakers signed a document favoring their removal from the list. This initiative adds to a previous request from Orange County (California) District Attorney Todd Spitzer.

After meeting with Venezuelan ruler Nicolás Maduro, US President Donald Trump's envoy to Caracas Richard Grenell boarded his flight back home alongside six Americans who had been held hostage by the Bolivarian regime.

Brazil: shocking slave-like labor figures released

Numerous businessmen and politicians were singled out in a Labor Ministry report on slave-like working conditions in South America's largest country, released this week, singled out numerous businessmen and politicians. Over the last three decades, over 65,500 people have been rescued from such a situation. In 2024 alone, 1,035 inspections were carried out, resulting in 2,004 people being rescued, as the local feebleness of human rights was once again exposed.

Falklands celebrates Girls and Women in Sport International Day with huge display

A very active month for sports in the Falkland Islands particularly with the coming Girls and Women in Sport International Day scheduled on 05 February. With this in mind the Falklands National Sports Council, NSC, is coordinating a series of social media posts and events to highlight a selection of the many women in Falkland sport as well as offering some opportunities to have a go at some sports that women might not have considered previously.

Paraguayan President describes importance of trade openness in speech at WTO

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Friday underlined the importance of trade openness and multilateralism during his speech at the World Trade Organization's (WTO) headquarters in Geneva. Peña highlighted “the importance of global integration to strengthen trade and resilience in the face of uncertainty,” the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC) said in a statement.

Released British-Israeli soldier discusses plight with PM Starmer

Emily Damari, the Israeli soldier who grew up in south-east London and was taken hostage by the terrorist organization Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, spoke Friday on the telephone with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whom she told about her ordeal. Upon her release, she made headlines worldwide for having lost two fingers and because her sexual orientation (lesbian) had been kept from public knowledge to avoid further damage from her captors.

BAS studies whales and fish to protect South Georgia marine ecosystem

British Antarctic Survey scientists on the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia are working to better understand the rich marine life that inhabits the region. This month teams are focusing on two major projects: one on whales and their consumption of krill (a shrimp-like creature that’s abundant in the Southern Ocean), and another on populations of bottom-dwelling fish. Their findings will help ensure the long-term health of the region’s ocean ecosystem and support sustainable fisheries.

Trump’s envoy delivers stern warning to Maduro in Caracas as US flag displayed in Miraflores

Richard Grenell, the special envoy appointed by U.S. President Donald Trump, met with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro at the Presidential Miraflores Palace in Caracas on Friday. During the meeting, Grenell conveyed a non-negotiable message from White House official Mauricio Claver-Carone: Maduro must “receive back the Venezuelan criminals that have been sent to the United States.”

Brazilian Police keep looking for 32-year-old Argentine national Federico Bruni who went missing as he went on a tour in the São Bonifácio jungle. Bruni's pick-up truck and his dog have already been found.

US special envoy lands in Caracas

US career diplomat Richard Grenell landed Friday in Caracas presumably to participate in the return of a group of Venezuelan deportees in exchange for US nationals detained by the Bolivarian regime in the South American country. However, neither government has made any agenda public so the full scope of Washington's former Ambassador to Germany is mostly media speculation.
