Steve is currently a director of FIMCo and Stanley Growers, and was formerly on the board of the Falkland Islands Chamber of Commerce. The Falkland Islands Government has announced the appointment of Steve Dent as the next Director of Development & Commercial Services. Steve joined FIG in 2023, and for the last three years has been Deputy Director of DCS, with direct line-management responsibility for a number of key FIG sections as well as commercial contracts within the directorate’s remit.
He comes from a broad commercial background, previous roles having included Director of Support Services for the Falkland Islands Company and before that running his own Health & Safety training consultancy.
Steve is currently a director of FIMCo and Stanley Growers, and was formerly on the board of the Falkland Islands Chamber of Commerce.
Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands Government, Dr Andrea Clausen said: ‘We’re extremely pleased to be promoting Steve to the top job in Development & Commercial Services. His prior knowledge of crucial ongoing projects and wealth of experience across government departments and the private sector not only make him the ideal appointee, but illustrate the important steps being taken throughout FIG to improve succession planning, increase the number of long-term residents in the Corporate Management Team, and thereby add stability to government leadership.’
With 22 years’ reserve service in the Royal Falkland Islands Police under his belt, and extensive experience in His Majesty’s Coronial Service, Steve is a well-known figure in Stanley, across Camp, and at Mount Pleasant.
He first came to the Falklands in 1998, on a one-year teaching contract – and has been here ever since. Married with a number of children and grandchildren, Steve is at his happiest out on the hills with his dogs or in the kitchen with his grandchildren.
He will take up his new position on 3 August 2026.
FIG would also like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing Director Becky Clark for her considerable efforts in the fields of telecoms and port infrastructure over the past four years. We are very pleased to announce that Becky will be transitioning to a new role as Strategic Projects Director, in the Secretariat.
