Falklands’ Gentoo Penguin Postcard Rate Booklet Stamps

For the past decade Sara has worked aboard expedition ships as an expedition leader, and during the Covid period spent time working aboard the fisheries patrol vessel Pharos SG in South Georgia

The new airmail postcard rate stamps from the Falkland Islands feature a beautiful and unusual photograph of a Gentoo Penguin taken by Sara Jenner. The stamps are available in booklets of 10 stamps. Currently the postcard rate in the Falklands is £1.60.

For the past decade Sara has worked aboard expedition ships as an expedition leader, and during the Covid period spent time working aboard the fisheries patrol vessel Pharos SG in South Georgia. Both provided opportunities to visit the Falklands. Earlier this year, Sara spent 2 weeks travelling around the Islands, including Sea Lion Island, where this photograph was taken.

Sara comments that “On the evening in question, a beautiful sunset emerged after a typically overcast Falklands afternoon. As the light began to soften, the pink hues intensified across the sky, creating a wonderful backdrop along the beach. I remained there with a group of curious gentoo penguin chicks, each seemingly as intrigued by me as I was by them. That moment of curiosity, innocence, and connection is what is captured in the photograph”.

“I often say that “wildlife is my love and photography my frustration,” a phrase that continues to ring true no matter where in the world I find myself. The Falkland Islands hold a very special place in my heart. Their extraordinary wildlife, dramatic landscapes, and sense of remoteness create an experience unlike anywhere else on Earth. To have one of my photographs featured on a Falkland Islands stamp is a tremendous honor and something I am incredibly proud of”. The booklet stamps was released this month.
