US removes Venezuela and Bolivia from list of countries failing on drugs

The United States government removed Venezuela and Bolivia from the category of countries that Washington says have failed to demonstrably combat international drug trafficking, while keeping Colombia, Afghanistan and Myanmar on that list. The determination, sent to Congress on Tuesday and released by the State Department on Wednesday, is part of the annual assessment of the 23 countries deemed major drug transit or producing states, five of which had been designated last year as having “failed demonstrably.” Read full article

Funny stuff. I once flew a Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano 707 coming from La Paz, boarding in Manaus to Bogota and on to Miami. The overloaded ancient aircraft poured condensation out of the vents at takeoff and a third of the overhead bins popped open. At the notoriously difficult Bogota approach and landing, however, the pilot touched down that dinosaur like a feather (snort !). We got to Miami on time, but I missed my connecting domestic flight despite a 2 hour buffer. EVERYONE was thoroughly searched and several detained, you see. I had booked the notorious 'coke flight'. Anyone seriously think this has changed?
