  Massive strand of dozens of pilot whales in Western Australia

  

  Some one hundred pilot whales ended stranded on a beach in Western Australia on Tuesday with wildlife officials announcing 51 had already died on Wednesday. The whales were spotted swimming near Cheynes beach east of Albany early on Tuesday, but by the afternoon the beached whales covered a stretch of the shoreline, despite earlier efforts to guide them back to sea.

  Latin-Americas' largest utilities company plans to invest US$ 17bn. in clean energy

  

  Electrobras, Brazil's main electricity complex has plans to invest some US$ 17 billion in the next five years through mergers and acquisitions. The company said that investments in electricity generation would come in at around US$3.6 billion over the period as it moves to comply with its goal of a clean energy complex.

  Dead penguins found on Uruguayan beaches

  

  Uruguayan researchers have reported the finding of some 300 dead Magellanic penguins on local beaches, the NGO SOS Rescate Fauna Marina confirmed. The birds were said to be extremely thin and might have died due to cold weather on their annual migration from Argentine Patagonia to southern Brazil in search of food and warmer weather.

  A powerful earthquake shook many countries in Central America on Tuesday, with a magnitude of 6.5. The quake shook much of Central America late on Tuesday evening, from Nicaragua to Guatemala, forcing residents in some cities onto the streets.

  Dozens of cities across southern Europe were under heat wave red alerts, as officials warned of extreme temperatures persisting over the coming days. In Italy, at least 16 cities were under “red” alerts for heat, including Rome, Florence and Bologna.

  Bottleneck dolphins attack swimmers in Japanese and Irish beaches

  

  Swimmers have been injured in dolphin attacks on a beach in central Japan, officials say. One man, in his 60s, suffered broken ribs and bites to his hands after a dolphin rammed him a few meters off Suishohama beach in the town of Mihama, Fukui prefecture, early on Sunday.

  Strong quake hits Argentina and Chile

  

  Argentina's National Institute of Seismic Prevention (Inpres) Monday reported an earthquake at 00:05 local time (03:05 GMT), at a depth of 214 kilometers, with its epicenter 240 kilometers west of the city of Neuquén, and 14 kilometers south of the small town of Loncopué.
