Falkland Islands lawmakers committed to enable oil production

Members of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly John Birmingham and Pete Biggs have both voiced personal distaste at the concept of oil production in the Falkland Islands, despite an overall commitment in the Islands Plan 2022 to “progress extractive industries in an environmentally conscious way.”

Falklands community will host 150 pilgrims for five days in November

The 40th Anniversary Committee of the Falklands Islands recently appealed for hosts to accommodate 135 pilgrims and 10 support staff during their visit from 9 to 14 November and are very pleased to report that over 150 beds have been offered by the Stanley community for the veterans, next of kin and their partners.

Falklands/Malvinas: Ecuador Legislative overwhelmingly votes in support of Argentina's claims

Ecuador's one House Legislative Assembly overwhelmingly voted on Wednesday in support of Argentina and “its battle in defense of Malvinas, South Georgia, and South Sandwich Islands, and adjoining maritime and insular spaces”, which according to the Argentine ministry of foreign affairs, “are illegitimately occupied by the United Kingdom”.

UK ambassador in Peru: “Falklands/Malvinas is a closed case for us”

UK ambassador in Peru, Gavin Cook, interviewed by the Lima media said that the Falklands/Malvinas issue is a “closed case” for London, ratifying UK sovereignty over the Islands but also admitted having discussed the issue at length with officials from the host country.

UK and Argentina clash at UN Fourth Committee on Decolonization over Falklands, South Atlantic Islands and self determination

Among the several issues addressed by the UN Fourth Committee was the draft resolution titled “Dissemination of information on decolonization”, contained in Chapter XIII of the Special Committee’s report. The text was approved by a recorded vote of 143 in favour to 3 against (Israel, United Kingdom, United States) and 1 abstention (France).

Falklands Senior Veterinary Officer recommendations on Avian Influenza

As we have learnt Avian Influenza is the current bird/poultry disease to look out for. Just to recap: Avian Influenza is a viral disease of birds (very seldom also humans), that is mainly transmitted via direct contact and/or droppings of infected birds. The symptoms can range from flu type symptoms (sneezing, respiratory distress) and decrease in the number of eggs laid, all the way to sudden death.
