  Falklands Government extends Rockhopper's Petroleum Production Licenses to December 2026

  

  Rockhopper Exploration plc (AIM: RKH), the oil and gas company with key interests in the North Falkland Basin announced that, following discussions with the Falkland Islands Government, FIG has agreed to extend all of the Company’s North and South Falkland Basin Petroleum Production Licenses meaning that the licenses will now run until the 31 December 2026.

  Falklands, National Minimum Wage accommodation offset survey extends deadline to 3 November

  

  The Falkland Islands government has announced that the current deadline for consultation responses on the National Minimum Wage accommodation offset has been extended by two weeks to Sunday 3 November 2024. This is to allow time for additional engagement sessions to take place. The original deadline for responses was Sunday 20 October 2024.

  Falklands MPA, German Lufthansa Airbus scheduled to arrive March 2025

  

  A German airline Lufthansa aircraft is scheduled to land at Mount Pleasant Airport, Falkland Islands, next March, according to the air business site AeroRoutes. When this happens, it will be the second time a Lufthansa aircraft has landed at MPA.

  Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust chair to step down

  

  Donald Lamont, long-serving Chair of the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust board of Trustees is retiring from his roles as chairman and Trustee. He will relinquish his role as chairman on 21st October 2024 and will resign as a Trustee on 4th November 2024.

  Humanitarian Project in Falkland, Red Cross begins contacts in Buenos Aires

  

  On Wednesday, October 16th, Argentina's Foreign Minister Diana Mondino received Gilles Carbonier, vice president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, to discuss the resumption of negotiations for the Third Plan of the Humanitarian Project, which is geared to the identification of Argentine combatants who fell in the Falklands during the South Atlantic conflict of 1982.

Still, the UK government’s recent decision to hand sovereignty of the Chagos Islands, British Indian Ocean Territory, to the Republic of Mauritius has caused outrage from some and disbelief from others. Still, it has again brought to discussion if other Overseas Territories such as the Falkland Islands and/or Gibraltar need to have representation at Westminster.
